About Me

WHO IS ERIC BOGOSIAN?
1) A creator of monologues and solo shows. His solos have received three Obie awards, a Drama Desk Award and others. His shows have had extended runs Off-Broadway. His work is published by Theatre Communications Group.
2) A playwright, "Talk Radio" and "subUrbia" being the best known. He has written several others. His latest was "Griller" done at Center Stage in Baltimore.
3) He writes films. He has worked continuously on films for studios since 1986. He wrote the screenplays for the film versions of both his plays.
4) An actor. He starred in the play and film version of "Talk Radio" and has appeared or starred in over a dozen other films including: "Wonderland"; "Deconstructing Harry"; the "Law & Order" TV series; ABC's shortlived "Love Monkey"; "Beavis and Butthead Do America"; "Dolores Claiborne", "Under Siege 2" and the CBS miniseries "Blonde", based on the book by Joyce Carol Oates.
5) A novelist. His novels "Mall" and "Wasted Beauty" are published by Simon & Schuster
6) A performer who toured his solo shows around the U.S.
7) He was born April 24, 1953 and raised in Woburn, MA. He graduated from Oberlin College.
COMMONLY* HELD MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT ERIC BOGOSIAN AND HIS WORK
1) He is a comedian.
He is not a comedian. He never performed in comedy clubs, never did stand-up, did not hang out with comedians. He likes comedians though.
2) He is a performance artist.
He is not a performance artist. Performance art is performance made by visual artists. He is a writer and actor who spent time around the art scene and performed at places like The Kitchen, known for performance art, but he is not a performance artist.
3) "Talk Radio" was originally an on-stage solo.
"Talk Radio" was always a multi-character play. He wrote it and co-created it with the artist Tad Savinar.
4) Oliver Stone wrote the screenplay of the film "Talk Radio."
The screenplay was almost entirely based on the play and some biographical information about Alan Berg, a talk show host in Denver who was murdered in 1984 by white supremacists. Bogosian wrote the screenplay with help from Oliver Stone.
5) Bogosian wrote solos before he wrote plays.
Between 1977 and 1982, he wrote a dozen multi-character and ensemble performances and plays, including "The New World", "Scenes from the New World", "Sheer Heaven" and "Men in Dark Times". He began performing the solos because he was broke.
6) Bogosian is related to other people with the same or similar last names.
Not generally.
7) Bogosian is on drugs.
nope.
*Not that common. We figure about .25 percent or one in four hundred Americans are aware of this truly underground Armenian-American phenomenon.
