About Me

THE J-SUB 'PARTNERS IN CRIME'

The J-Sub is a collaboration of Subliminal Criminal & Jason Miles. A chance meeting at the door of a club in north London put start to the mission we are now on. Two geezers with a long association to the dance party scene with very different back grounds makes for a strange brew of musical styles.

At the moment working on new tracks and live set for the summer 2008. Working together on and off over the last months the fusion of the two has seemingly worked from the start blending in styles from hard edged electro funk to Chicago house, from hip hop to techno. With open ears and an open mind to music we are locked on and tuned in and will take the live set to as many places as possible to find new dance floors to unleash the machinery on.

TRUST NO ONE SUSPECT EVERYONE, NOT ALL CRIMINALS ARE SUBLIMINAL

Subliminal Criminal comes from the dancefloors of the London underground but at the end of the nineties a move was made to the Netherlands, but now after many years away he has now made the move back to the UK.Producing music since the mid nineties he has released on various record labels and his musical development has gone from underground techno to a music which he describes as... industrial funk!"it's a fusion of styles that can vary considerably but always with one eye on the dance floor and with a definite twist of psychedelic weirdness in there somewhere""I learnt my craft from years of being around the Jedi Knights of live set in the European underground. There we had the freedom to test what we did on multitudes of soundsytems and were able to play for hour upon hour in the freedom that we had created.

DON'T BE AN ARCHITECT BE AN ARTIST, TOCH ?

Subliminal Criminal was one of the founding members of Nocturnal State and was one of the main driving forces behind the Industrial Funk parties. The I-Funk name came about because of the places we found ourselves partying in over the years, like old warehouses, old factories, ship yards etc.. basically many industrial places with a lot of funky vibes going down."At the time it was not our main intention to do it better than what was already there, we were just music junkies and what better way is there to satisfy your addiction than to ask those artists that you are into to come and play at your parties"
"For me there was and always will be a massive difference between talking about it and doing it, and if you can't find satisfaction in what is around you, you must get off your arse and Do It Yourself"
As for the process of music creation, music is an art form, you can't force art but you can get better in what you create, although this can be subjective to everyones own opinion. It's a feeling, maybe it's kind of like expressing what your soul looks and sounds like, who knows, I don't delve that deeply into the meaning of art for fear of going up my own arse and theres enough of those people out there all ready. For me music and art in general should not be made in any other style but your own, when you make music it should be an open canvas with no pre-conditions. It's also not what you use to make the music with that is relevant but it is only the end result that is important. Of course it's nice to be able to get your hands on expensive equipment but if you can't get your hands on that expensive stuff you just got to use what is around you until you can. You can list a whole heap of shit that you use to make your music on to impress people with but so what, the only really impressive thing is the music its self, in it ? {although it is wicked to be inside a space shuttle and watch someone who really knows how to fly it, you can learn allot in those moments when they happen} I have my own views on live sets and how I do them but everyone does them their own way and has their own reasons for using the stuff they use to do the job.

THE ANSWERS NOT INSIDE ANY MACHINE IT'S INSIDE YOURSELF ! ! !

Now back with the London crew the mission is to put the many years of underground audio vibes and bring it to those who may well have not seen or heard it done that way. We are those that have never pretended, we never hid behind nothing, we are who we are and that is true to our selves and what we believe in.
