Sounds Like: Joop recording comedy and real shit all his life, filling up cassette tapes for listening enjoyment with interludes and fresh ideas, without dull moments. Always wanting to do something serious with music, but at the very least just wanting to entertain. The main goal being to tickle the senses of some untouched places in the soul of an audience. Offer up something vibrant and fresh, even if it's about death that day. Joop is a hand-percussionist, a vocal percussionist, a vocalist, a songwriter, and most recently a guitarist. You can hear his guitar in "True Gritt" or catch him live for a solo show at Has Beans Coffee Shop in downtown Chico. He joined a rap-band with German exchange Student Nils Sowen in high school, at first a duo titled Joop n' Nils, who was joined by Adam "Admode" Lefebvre, and Camerin Burns. They stintely re-titled themselves 'Free Beer' and rocked a few house party's for free alcohol. "Free Beer Tonight @ Amy Pizzatola's". The band split when Nils had to go back to Germany. Joop practiced and recorded a few tracks for the next few years with forever-commited music-mate J.Dub. Then, taking a break from music for a bit and following the pounding of a lone djembe, fate brought Joop to Christian Gabriel. Knowvella formed and filled Joop's soul with the voice of tribal harmony and passion. Now he tours and jams and records with music that he truely believes in. Joining back with J.Dub on one of his many side-projects, Fifty2One, who's goal was to join together a crew of friends and whoever. Well in bands, it goes, the more members the less likely you are to hold it together. Fifty2One is no longer, though Joop didn't let his golden verses go to waste. He plays acoustic/hiphop versions of those Fifty2One songs in his solo shows. Getting on the Chico music scene with Knowvella brought Joop many other oppurtunities. He is now an essential part to both Erik Park's project Serenity and The John Staedler Band. Also getting suited up for a conscious trip-hop project with Musical Brewing Company's Matt Battaglia. Stay plugged into Joop if you want to rely on something fresh and vibrant, as he promises to forever expand on his unique style and colorful message. A solo album is coming. A Knowvella album is coming. A Serenity Album is coming. A new John Staedler album is coming. Oh and watch out for Dirty Kong...
