About Me

Welcome to the MySpace world of Tim73. I'm a rock n roll player into country - soul - blues - rock n roll (musician sounds like I should wear a tie more & I never did read music too well). I've just started playing my guitars / mandolin / banjo in a new band - a Wycombe based alt.country band doing some great little upbeat & catchy Americana tunes (all originals). Currently cursed by the band name debate so watch this space! Prior to now I was in The Grand Union Union Music Show & CC Rider. I have a 90s bass playing past where I was in SkinTrade & The Ex-Boyfriends. Happy days but life is possibly more interesting now...

Thanks for stopping by and don't be strangers, y'hear!?

My Interests

Music - from playing it, to listening to it, through to collecting it. I miss vinyl but I'm coming around to downloads / Ipods. I like Fender guitars (particuarly telecasters), acoustic guitars, bluegrass instruments (F scroll mandolins are a particular favourite), Fender tube amps, playing live & home recording. I enjoy photography, cars, cult TV and film. I have a mild fascination with history, ranging subjects as varied and bizarre as law enforcement & the US Civil War. I also like to put effort into how I look whilst creating the illusion that I really haven't made any effort at all! I also spend far too much time online & have a Wikipedia addiction...

I'd like to meet:

Like minded musicians / fans. Friends from days gone by, heroes both past & present; and people who have stuff in common. The shere amount of spam requests make me feel obligated to point out that I'm considerately less keen to meet people who wouldn't know a good song if it kicked them up the arse, web cam girls, bullies, racists, fascists & thugs. Not a big fan of muso snobs, either. Also friend whores who clearly haven't looked at my profile - if you're 17yrs old, into Pussycat Dolls & Big Brother 19, I have to ask why send me PMs telling me I look kinda fun - you don't to me!?!

Music:

Check out some of my MySpace Friends for further reference - The Band, Flying Burrito Brothers, The Byrds, Manassas, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, OCMS, Drive By Truckers, Steve Earle, Waylon Jennings, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Curtis Mayfield, Burrito Deluxe, Dwight Yoakam, Proper soul music, 50s rock n roll, the 60s, loads of stuff from the 70s.... The list goes on & only helps serve as evidence that I was born in the wrong era!

Movies:

Planet of the Apes. The Star Wars Trilogy. Most of Clint Eastwood's films. Logan's Run. The Omega Man. Fahrenheit 451. The fine, fine work of Laurel & Hardy. Man Called Noon. Jerimarah Johnson. The Raid.

Television:

Far too much at times...Over the years in no particular order - King of the Hill. CHiPs. Family Guy. My Name Is Earl. Starsky & Hutch. South Park. Have I Got News For You. Ashes to Ashes. North & South. Scrubs. The Sweeney. Minder. The original 60s shows like Star Trek or Batman. Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. The Fall Guy. Alan Partridge. Louis Thereoux. Michael Moore. Simpsons. The Fall Guy. Life On Mars. Jeremy Paxman. The odd BBC4 music show.

Books:

I mainly read music biographies in a bid to appear to be one dimensional!?! Recently I've enjoyed Levon Helm's book on The Band, several books on Gram Parsons, the Johnny Cash autobiography and books on The Stones, Bob Dylan, lynyrd skynyrd, Waylon Jennings, The Dillards & loads more. Away from the music stuff, just a bit of political satire - but not too much, y'hear?.

Heroes:

Like many wise men, I've based my life on that of 70s/80s TV legend Tom Wopat!

My Blog

Tim73 vs Music Television

It's been a minor bug bear of mine for a while, we get no CMT in the UK. Chances are if we did, I'd be moaning that it leaned too heavily towards Garth Brooks and Faith Hill, but I'd welcome the oppor...

Format Approved

I’ve always sung the praises of vinyl - a record was £3.99, you’d hand your fiver over & were getting a 12" reward & a pound note / coin in your change! OK, so occasionally they ju...

Unveiling...

For those who know me well, the great find of 2007 for me was Doug "the leatherman". It all started with a recomendation via the TDPRI - Doug lives in New York State & crafts leather for musician...

Bring the Noise!

It would appear that I am turning into one of those guitarists... You know the types? I've always been quite disiplined as a player & quietly smirked as others conducted themselves in a certain w...

Telecasting

The Fender Telecaster was actually the first patented Electric Guitar, the forerunner to the more popular Fender Stratocaster. I tend to view the Strat as Eric Clapton & the old guard playing them...

Face Facts

I think it all started a few years back with Friends Reunited. I can't remember how I got the tip off but I remember trawling through a list of names I'd long forgotten wondering where all my old frie...

London - Im Comin to See Ya!

If you can cast your mind back to the Summer... I was chained to the desk at work (in the beaucratical sense, nothing kinky you must understand) when the music of Gram Parsons started to blare ou...

Tyla the Texas Drawl & my weekend

A phone call from my old school mate Martin recently was outta the blue. He wanted to meet up again (it had been too long) & the excuse we used was to see Tyla, of my teenage faves The Dogs D'Amou...

Through the Years

I was sent a picture of my school band this week. I've (possibly unwisely) stuck it on the site in my Days Gone By section of pictures. I had the picture in a frame at home anyway but would be qu...

Soundtrack to My Life

I have been meaning to blog this for a while, truth be told. I remember being at a party about 10 yrs ago with a bloke who didn't like music, trying to explain why music was so important. At the time...
