Influences: I have been listening to a lot of The Verve, Rickie Lee Jones and Wilco.
I suppose what trained my ear most was a lot of what my Mom listened to when i was growing up. Artists and bands like: Cat Steven's, Willie Nelson, Crystal Gayle, Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams Sr., Kris Kristofferson, Linda Ronstad, James Taylor, Leon Russell, Patsy Cline, Phobee Snow, Emmylou Harris, Joe Cocker, Janis Ian, Simon and Garfunkel, Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, Melissa Manchester, Carol King, Elton John, Juice Newton, Kenny Rodgers, Neil Diamond. This music was always and still is on repeat. Then i remember hearing a lot of Rolling Stones, Tanya Tucker, Rickie Lee Jones, The Eagles, The Band, Neil Young, Paul McCartny, Michael Franks, Fleetwood Mac and Almand Brothers. I went through a phase where I listened to bands like Styx, Genesis, Journey and Foreigner too.... oh there was also a point in time when I listened to those bands named after states and continents like Boston, Kansas and Asia. what else? Led Zep, Prince, Wham, The Police, Blondie, The Specials, Madonna, Bruce Springstein, Michael Jackson, Tracey Chapman's first record, Nirvana, The Pixies, Soundgarden, The Breeders, Wilco, Son Volt, Ryan Adam's. I was also into the "crow" bands like the Black Crows and Counting Crow's earlier work.. the list goes on and on. Im sure I'm foegetting tons.
oh yeah, I was really into John Mellencamp when he was John Cougar.
My first concert was in 1979 - Willie Nelson and Leon Russell in Houston Texas. My last two were: Wilco at the Greek in LA, Aug 2008, and Ryan Adams at the Arlington in Santa Barabara, Jan 08. My next, Rickie Lee Jones at the Echoplex in LA, Feb 08
Sounds Like: "...Villalobos combines the rootsy Americana of Lucinda Williams
with the straight up rock of the Stones circa 1970, wrestling with Ryan Adams...."

Sometimes like Son Volt, A Girl Ryan Adams, Whiskeytown, A Girl Neil Young but more pop than Neil, sometimes folk-rock-ish, sometimes Indie country-ish rock.
