Rub some funk on that, dammit...

About Me

Hey all, I was born in the UK but grew up in New Zealand and I've been playing bass guitar since 1986. Bass ain't the only thing I'm interested in, I'm a former professional illustrator and work as a chartered landscape architect/urban designer, I cook and travel regularly to China on both business and pleasure. You'll find my blog deals with pretty much anything on my mind, not just bass stuff.
My musical education started at high school with blues, moving to jazz and funk and then to soul, rnb and aspects of hip hop. I'm inspired by players who have something to say in their playing other than technique. Meshell Ndegeocello, Pino Palladino, Julian Crampton and Bernard Edwards are my main influences along with Mark King during my formative years. Michael Manring is one of the few bass maestros I've heard whose sheer musicality really reaches out to me.
I also own and co-run the UK's largest bass guitar webforum called Basschat.co.uk. If you're a bass player then check it out at www.basschat.co.uk.
