When I first put on this CD, I wasn’t sure what I was going to get. After I was 1/2 way through listening to it, I am excited to say that I still had the same question. It is really refreshing to see a CD that mixes up the genres so much. From down tempo beauties such as Microstar’s “Virtual Voltage” to electro rock vocals such as Justin Paul feat Sapphirecut’s “There’s A Reason” to techno monsters such as Tattoo Detective’s “Il Salto Fouri,” there is a little something for everyone. With so many sounds to choose from, it’s easy to see why this CD has caught the ears of DJ’s from King Britt to Carl Cox.

"It’s satisfying to see a US based label starting to veer out of the normal “US” sound, and with so many different genres to cover, Playloop certainly has their work cut out for them. This label is definitely one to look forward to this year if these tracks have anything to say about it.

For its first CD, Playloop mixed a few new bits with its top releases for a collection with many flavors. With Kezner’s guitar-washed downtempo, Microstar’s deep house, Tattoo Detectives’ peak hour bangers and a bit of proto-trance from Locality, it’s a diverse assemblage of sounds and structures found throughout. There are time-stretched samples on TD’s “il salto fuori” and Nigel Richards’ aptly named “Acid Reflux,” and label boss Justin Paul shows a range of styles, including the tech-house edge of “Red Shift.”

"The epic-sounding One Foot On The Moon, which starts like the perfect backdrop to the opening credits of a Hollywood blockbuster, but has a conclusion that makes it perfect for the closing credits too. Techno bloody techno at its progressive best.
Justin Paul has some solid minimal techno grooves in Red Shift – a track that has recently featured on Carl Cox’s ‘Global Sessions’ show; not surprisingly, this track has got serious legs and the subtlety on the off-beat shuffle is a pleasure to listen to. He backs it up with There’s a Reason, which – while getting a bit more aggressive in the stance – has some impressive vocals from Sapphirecut, sounding very much like Shirley Manson of Garbage fame; or maybe that’s just me. Solid track all the same, and it wraps up a great offering by Paul".

Talking about the Tattoo Detectives track "Il salto fuori (Crazy Mix)"
“These guys gave me a CD called ETC before and I signed it to my Space compilation this year. So they came down again to Pacha in New York with these tracks and I said, "Yeah, man. I’ll check it out later.” Then when I did I check it out, I just thought "This record is storming". It’s kind of like techno but with a Dave Clarke chord stab edge to it and it’s got the words, "This DJ’s fucking crazy" in it. It’s pumping techno in its fury and again, it’s been really full on in my sets.

"Playloop has already garnered serious industry attention, nabbing praise from major DJs. Rather than focusing on one particular style - a common tack for electronic labels - Playloop aims with a more eclectic, expansive scope. The label’s debut comp album, "Get Into the Loop Vol. 1," is out to demonstrate that.
