From the decaying post-industrial city of Binghamton, NY comes Sirius Rising. Once a duo (including Jon Harris), but now a solo project, Qortni takes it all upon herself. Starting on piano at age 9, violin at 11, guitar at 13, drums at 17, cello at 28 and singing all along, she's quite capable of continuing on alone. Since her mid-teens, Qortni's been in and out of bands, experimenting in genres including alternative, punk, and death metal - finally settling into a goth-esque niche. "It's my favorite, and what I'm most comfortable with. What I create comes from my inner flame and emotional state, so the sound and style takes no effort. It's simply what manifests," Qortni says...From her early teens, and even now into her 20's, Qortni has studied philosophy, The Mysteries, and alchemy - to transcendential and existential thought. With years of such applied education, it clearly shows. Lyrically, Qortni purposefully pens in secret symbolism. Vocally she prefers the way of the lullaby. Musically, her songs are left wide open. "We don't need to be so bombarded by sound. Our minds get cluttered with noise, like a messy room. I like to create atmosphere and space. Like cleaning out that messy room, you feel like you can breathe again. We should not fill up every facet of our lives with just - stuff," she says...The goal of Sirius Rising is to stir emotions and rouse the soul. Qortni's fascinated by what's inside us. If her songs move you, then Sirius Rising is serving its purpose...Thru the years Qortni had the same music instructor as Joe Satriani and Steve Vai, and has worked with such musicians as bassist "Teddy" Williams.
