Director: Faythe Levine
Director of Photography: Micaela O'Herlihy
Additional Camera work: Drew Rosas
Editor: Cris Siqueira
Assistant Editor: Joe Wong

From June 2006 through December 2006 Faythe Levine and Micaela O’Herlihy traveled over 19,000 miles to document the New Wave of Craft in America. 15 cities were visited including Atlanta, Minneapolis, Chicago, Brooklyn, Seattle, Austin, Houston, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Olympia, Boston,Pittsburgh,Providence, Milwaukee and Madison. While in these cities we documented Indie Craft Fairs and their organizers, the crafters at the shows, we visited brick and mortar shops and galleries that support the craft community and did many studio visits. Over all we interviewed over 50 individuals including many well-known community members such as the Austin Craft Mafia, Nikki McClure, Sue Blatt & Kathleen Habbley of Renegade Craft Fair, Marie Kare of the Sampler.com, Jill Bliss of blissen.com, Garth Johnson of Extreemcraft.com

The new wave of craft is an emerging movement of artists, crafters and designers working in traditional and non-traditional mediums and methodologies to forge a new economy, lifestyle and community.

This new movement is influenced by the history and techniques of traditional handiwork, modern aesthetics, politics, feminism and art. The new wave of craft is a marriage of your grannies handi-work, punk and DIY

Producer & Director, Faythe Levine grew up on the west coast within the punk community. The d.i.y. ethics of that scene became part of her life at that time, changing the way she viewed music, art and politics. This mentality stuck with her, and as an artist she found her creative self at home at the first Renegade Craft Fair in 2003. From that point on she has fully immersed herself within the indie craft scene and most of her creative efforts since have been intertwined with the craft community. Her crafty business Flying Fish Design has been .. since that time. Soon after, in 2004, she founded Milwaukee's Indie Craft Fair Art vs. Craft , which is now a sucessful bi-annual event. And in June 2005 she became the co-owner of the Paper Boat Boutique & Gallery, a brick and mortar shop featuring exclusively indie artists and designers. This movie will be a labor of love, produced out of the respect and admiration she has for all of the incredible people she has connected with during this time.

Director of Photography,Micaela O'Herlihy Micaela O'Herlihy is inching her way into the woods – permanently. Her recent work maps her transition from urban hooligan to woodland autonomist. During the winter she teaches handmade filmmaking at University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee and during the warmer months she grows vegetables, gourds and mushrooms in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. She works year round in film, paint, clay, plaster, compost, spawn and wood. Her films and installations have found their way into festivals and venues worldwide including Sundance, LA Freewaves and Ann Arbor Film Festival. She received a BFA from San Francisco Art Institute and an MFA from U.W. Milwaukee.

Faythe & Micaela are artistic collaborators in vision, mind & spirit; their goal is to make a beautiful & informative documentary about an amazing group of people. Please pass the word on to others. This is a community-oriented project, powered by the influence of the strong community that has emerged & strongly established itself in the last 6 years and we would like to involve as many peeps as possible.
