And now the bio....
After the break up of cult band The Q Tips in 1982, Paul Young signed a major recording deal as a solo artist with Sony. It was a move that would bring him worldwide fame with a string of hit singles and multi-platinum albums.
The initial success of 'Love Of The Common People' was eclipsed by 'Wherever I Lay My Hat, which remained at the UK number 1 spot for almost the whole summer of 1983. The album 'No Parlez' pushed Paul and The Royal Family (his supporting band) to the top of the charts. 'Come Back & Stay' gave him global success, and he also met his future wife, Stacey Smith whilst making the video for the single. With his second album, 'The Secret Of Association' his status as a superstar was confirmed. 'Every Time You Go Away' was - and still is - his biggest worldwide hit.
After recording the opening lines of the Band Aid single Do They Know Its Christmas Time?, the charity record for Africa went on to become the biggest selling UK single ever. This landmark song inspired Lionel Richie and Michael Jackson to write We Are The World and propel the dual UK/USA Live Aid concert into the record books for the most watched television event in history. Paul Young took to the stage at Wembley Stadium on July 13th playing to 100,000 fans and two thirds of the worlds population watching from their homes.
Paul has also been active with several collaborations, including his worldwide hit Sensa Una Donna (Without a Woman) dueting with his old friend, Italian superstar Zucchero. As well as playing re-union tours with his former band The Q-tips, one of Pauls major passions is his side project, the Tex-Mex band, Los Pacaminos. After playing some of the biggest concerts in history (Live Aid, The Nelson Mandela Concert, The Freddie Mercury Tribute at Wembley), Paul continues to tour all across the world playing sell out shows to his loyal fans.
With the new album now released in Europe this year, and the imminent launch of his new download store www.etopiamusic.com, he is set for another busy chapter in an extraordinary life.
