"LOUIE IS THE REAL DEAL. I AM PROUD TO HAVE BEEN AROUND AT THE START TO WATCH THIS YOUNG MAN GROW IN CAREER AND STATURE; AN AWESOMELY TALENTED DRUMMER!" - Steve White (Paul Weller)
"LOUIE PALMER IS ONE OF THE MOST EXCITING AND PROFICIENT BRITISH DRUMMERS TODAY. HE CAN PLAY ANY STYLE OF MUSIC WITH CLASS AND EASE AND ALWAYS MANAGES TO ADD PLENTY OF HIS OWN STYLE" - Thomas Lang (drumming master)
"LOUIE'S ENERGETIC AND PROFICIENT STYLE OF PLAYING ALONG WITH A GOOD DEMEANOR TO BE AROUND MAKES HIM A TRUSTWORTHY CHOICE FOR WHATEVER GIG OPPORTUNITY COMES UP." - Mike Mangini (Steve Vai)
Louie Palmer began playing drums at age 6 with an introduction to drumming from his Father, also a drummer. With his Father's guidance and teaching, Louie joined the Sutton Schools Concert Band at age 10 playing all types of concert and classical music, playing venues across the south-east such as the Fairfeid Halls. In 1996 he began studying with Peter Precious who was instrumental in teaching essential skills such as reading, styles and technique. In 1997 Louie joined the Merton Youth Concert Band and the Merton Youth Jazz Orchestra. The concert band allowed Louie to continue his classical training, but the big band really made Louie serious about playing the drums. The classic big band sound was inspiring and exciting and turned Louie on to drummers such as Buddy Rich, Louie Bellson and Mel Lewis. This band was also taught him about timekeeping, reading charts, lead sheets (and dragging a horn section!!) These two orchestras played at venues all across the UK including the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall and Wimbledon Tennis Championships. Tours of Italy and Norway were also organised.
At the end of 2001, aged 16, Louie left the Merton bands to pursue other projects. His freelance work was taking over and he was playing gigs across London with various bands, jazz groups and the like. Also in 2001 Louie became an endorsee with Premier Drums.
The new relationship with Premier Drums, gave Louie the opportunity to perform at some drum clinics. The first one was in 2002 with the great UK drummer, Steve White (Paul Weller). The next followed in 2003, at the Royal Opera House, also with Steve White. Just after the first clinic, Louie became a Zildjian Cymbals endorsee. Early 2004 saw Louie perform at The Best of British drum show organised by mikedolbear.com. Here Louie played along side Geoff Dugmore, and Mark Brzezicki.
Louie has studied with the some of the best drummers walking the earth, including Dave Weckl, Mark Mondesir, Mike Mangini, Virgil Donati and Thomas Lang.
In 2004 Louie headed off to Berklee college of Music after winning a large scholarship a few years before. Check out the great DRUMMER magazine to see Louie's Letters from America article, explaining the goings on at Berklee.
Since Berklee Louie has been gigging and practicing lots. A new promo DVD was filmed in Feb 2005 (to order a copy use the email link) and Louie has done some work with Jason Rebello (Sting, Jeff Beck), James Taylor (JTQ), Jools Holland, Arden Hart (Massive Attack) and Nigel Price amongst many others......
