In the midst of 2003, Vacant Cage Records was created to bring a new found respect for the independent
label. Based out of Murfreesboro, which is some 30 miles outside of Nashville, this label based itself on
bringing something new to the world of music. Focusing mainly on the emerging Middle Tennessee music
scene, Vacant Cage Records is releasing music that it is not only new and creative, but something that will
leave a lasting impression on music itself. Founded by Erik Nather and Brock Sharp these two
have combined there knowledge and experience to create a record label that gives their artists the best
advantages, both musically and financially.A year has gone by and Vacant Cage has already become somewhat of a household name in not only the
Middle Tennessee area, but other regions of the country as well. Not many labels have done what they have
done in their first year by having close to five releases and good amounts of positive press that have propelled
this label into something to reckon with in the future. With a roster that ranges from piano pop to the brinks of
hardcore, this label as shown great diversity and strives to bring all types of music together. In addition to
building a great foundation for an independent record label, Vacant Cage has also teamed up with the highly
touted promotional team, Underground Messenger, to open up even more opportunities for their artists,
as well as the Middle Tennessee music scene. Touring is also a major push by Vacant Cage towards their
artists. They believe that their artist’s music shouldn’t be contained to one general area and feel that with
touring, and doing it often, their artists music, as well as the labels name, will reach more music listeners
all over the country.As the future progresses, Vacant Cage Records doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. With
a few quality releases already in the books, and a hand full of other great projects in line, Vacant Cage Records
is well on there way to creating something truly remarkable.
