.The GentlemAns Club formed in 2004 with the brain trust of two very active musicians in the rochester area Davey"dream"Sesstito and Dusty West. Both coming off a very progressive hardcore metal project by the name of To Fester Within. With the help of close friend Jeff Weisonborn on bass the group set out to involve many of their new influences like country acts Johnny Cash, Bright eyes, Gram Parsons, Wilco, and indie bands like cursive and fugazi. .In 2004 the club recorded their first material with close friend and former bandmate Travis Rankin(museums, they sleep they dream). What came out was several post hardcore psychedelic indie epics with a punch to the face range of sounds. Slamming out shows at their favorite local haunt The bug jar in rochester ny. The band continuously would blow out their heads and speakers trying to capture the intensity that was locked inside their music. It was often normal to find an empty circle in fron of the band with the a crowd of people slammed into the back of the room trying to save their own ears from the sheer loudness. Taking the motto "Go full or Go home" very seriously. Many a sound guy argued that you just dont need full stax in a small bar. But the club refused to let go of their high ampage early on.
.Continuing on with their quest for high octane sound, the band looked to expand its range of noise, adding Troy Rank on keys, and Katherine Trimble(lux interna) on cello. As an almost self-destructive five piece the band recorded their first e.p. " The Good, The Bad, The Music" with Doug"cap'n' crunch"White at Watchmen studios in lockport n.y. in 2005. Five ear punishing epics were recorded with the local classic "NEW CHINA" in the mix.
You can hear the variety of sounds in new china, with a classic surf guitar tone to open the tune and a very smooth garagey mood added with the keys of troy rank. You can also find the dynamic snaps and beats of dusty west always pushing the song forward combined with a new sound for many bands, cello added an ominous sadness to it all. All this added to Daveys swoopy and entrancing vocals and layers upon layers of guitars made for an unforgettable sound which many fans coined to be a new sound "RODEO ROCK".
.Later on in 2006 the band found itself again in the studio. Writting four more tracks without the help of Troy. The songs become more sad with some more focus on cello and daves vocals. Soon after Katherine took a leave as well and Dusty west decided to work on some solo work so the band found itself in a hiatus. The Gentlemans Club was barely alive with unreleased material sitting on the shelf and meetings with Drive-thru records among other indie labels failing to produce an offer. what was next?
.Then came 2007 and Dusty and Dave decided to find a new focus and energy to a powewrful project. With six Tracks in hand and close friends Jeff Wesionborn and Erich fuchs to fill up a four piece roster the band headed back to Watchmen studios with Doug White(psyopus, gym class heroes,) to record their current and most poppy and popular recording yet. Which lead to its release in 2008. "Electric sound" finds the band burrying themselves in pop-filled hooks reminiscant of weezer, the beatles, and nirvana. You can still hear the Rodeo rock in songs like the bands motto titled track"Go full or go home. but, for the most part you can hear a good chunk of progression with songs like "hold on tight" and "the no good kind" which feature songs that you might just find on the modern rock station during your drive home. Dont let any of that fool you though, the band remains as indie and diy as possible refusing to take part in many of the music industries boring and out dated forms of commercialism.
2008 finds the Club still pounding away gigs at the bug jar and western new york. The line-up now consists of Dave"dream"sesstito(keys, guitar, vocals)Dusty West(drums, comedy) Matt deknatel(guitar, lead) and newly added kyle ushold on bass.
