About Me

I have been asked to write this biography of the Zonules of Zinn - apparently, as I have direct knowledge of this bunch of threadbare wastrels, it would seem I am eminently qualified.
In another life, behind another name ( protection of the innocent is vital here! ), The Zonules of Zinn trod the boards at just about every venue you could care to mention, including the T in the Park festival and two nights in support to Texas on their Greatest Hits tour at the SECC in Glasgow.
After a slight implosion ( more a *fffttt* sound than a *bang*), the group was now apart, and the Zonules attempted to face life in the normal world. This was, of course, a disaster. They needed each other - they needed each other in ways that can even now can only be talked about in hushed voices, behind closed doors. After years of sleeping on the other side of the pillow, they have returned – (a) better, (b) faster, (c) stronger, and (d), none of the above.
As far as you know, the Zonules of Zinn are:
ANDY MCPHERSON - Guitars and Vocals - Andy's main drawing power is magnetism. Can and will attract lightning.
BILLY CROWE - Guitars - Billy has six fingers on each hand. That is, of course, a lie.
D.P. JOHNSON - Drums and Percussion - Forget music, he has the greatest porn star name ever. EVER.
TERRY NELSON - Bass, Double Bass, and Piano - Terry has facial hair. And, you know, he's cool. I.. uh.. I like Terry!
So, what about the music? The Zonules of Zinn are like Pickled Onion Monster Munch - not the way they are now, but the way they were when you were a kid and you could put the packet in the oven ( after thoroughly cleaning it ) and make it into a key-ring.
The band are about to release their debut album " Zinn Love" on their own Z of Z Records imprint.
Songs from the album:
"Happy Apathy" has a built-in almost self-conscious quality - not in the writing, but something deliberate, something in the performance which draws the listener in - this quality is also deliberately missing by the song's climax - the listener ends up somewhere different from where they started.
"Automatta" is an almost perfectly flawed pop confection - from the low-key, almost buried chiming guitars in the bridge to the "Sanford and Son"-esque synths and a chorus that almost forces the listener to find change between the cushions of the sofa and run to the shops to overdose on Sherbet Fountains.
"Who ruru" practically tumbles from the speakers - it threatens to turn up at your door after closing time, smoke your last cigarette, drink your last beer, walk in on your girlfriend on the toilet and fall asleep on your couch - but with such effortless charm that you smile when it happens.
Contractual obligations over, all that is left are the postscripts :
i. Andy McPherson has never, and shall never look into the eye of a duck. ii. I do like Terry. I AM NOT BEING SARCASTIC! iii. One of the Zonules has seen me naked. iv. More than once.
