MARCO BERNARDI
Background
Octogen is the pseudonym of acclaimed Glasgow producer Marco Bernardi. His extraodinary debut. ‘2fiveonine’ is a stunning collection of shimmering techno-soul that exemplifies the depth and emotion of Marco’s productions. With this album he effortlessly fuses intricate, warm electronica with razor sharp electro jams and haunting alien techno workouts, which results in an immaculate collection of Detroit inspired future funk that will engage the listener from start to finish. The title refers to the date of his baby son’s birthday.,
Marco Bernardi has made a name for himself through his association with Rotterdams pioneering Clone label. His releases on affiliated labels Frustrated Funk, Frantic Flowers and DUB have cemented his credentials as part of the new breed of electro-tech manipulators. Prior to his association with Clone he released on Tom Churchill’s Emoticon imprint,Jason Brunton,s Iridite label and a release from former Glasgow label Under The Counter featuring Claude Young.
His output as Octogen is more melodic and techno orientated than the jacking electro of the works under his own Marco Bernardi name. He is also an established studio engineer and has worked with Percy X on his recent ‘The Separatists’ project on Soma.
Marco is a charismatic figure for whom music runs in the family and has always been in the blood, he began his musical odyssey aged fifteen when he toured the Glasgow pub and club circuit playing keyboards in cover bands. However, when a classmate introduced him to the futuristic funk of techno and electro, Marco realised that he had found the sound he had been searching for.
Around the same time, he began work in the Hi-Tech department of a Glasgow music store and began building an unrivalled collection of studio gear whilst gaining the engineering know-how to bring the sounds in his head to life. Marco cites the likes of Autechre, Black Dog and B12 as important influences, .
Live Performances
Marco has been honing his live set over a number of years at venues around Europe. A typical performance incorporates analogue hardware with cutting-edge software in a heady mix which builds from melodic, downtempo electronics to a floor-filling sonic assault. In short, they never fail to rock the spot. Having always appreciated a good show, Marcos recent British gigs have also included guest vocalists, adding yet another dimension to his sound.
