Kiss my bass!

About Me

Hi!
I live in Vienna, the capital of that weird little country in the middle of Europe called Austria.
My dayjob is to be a economic/business journalist for the best newspaper in the country, Der Standard ( derstandard.at ).
And when the dayjob is done I play the bass!
Until recently. Now I'm a dad too. Our son Timo was born on June 3rd, 2008. And since then we are trying to keep up ... he's supercute, at least that's what I think (who won't say that bout his kids ...). But have a look at the photo section ...

My Interests

well ... my family, of course music, especially basses, then travelling, people, languages, history of the countries I visit, that's it ...

I'd like to meet:

bassplayers and other musicians from all over the world!

Music:

my current bands:
*new_unnamed_project*
OLESTRA (the most sexual grunge cover band, sigless rock city)
PUCH COBRA (2-stroke moped rock, currently: on hold, because our guitar player/songwrite has a job now which earns him big money. on the other hand he has no time for rock n roll anymore ...)
What I like:
Tool, A Perfect Circle, The Mars Volta, Audioslave, Nine Inch Nails, Amplifier, Oceansize, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Nine Inch Nails, Queen of the Stone Age, Stone Temple Pilots, Tenacious D, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Porcupine Tree, Opeth, Rush, Rage Against The Machine, Temple of the Dog, Mother Love Bone, Eagles of Death Metal, Wolfmother, Blackmail, Primus, Kyuss, Mötley Crue, Dredg, Guns'n'Roses, Nirvana, Incubus, Suicidal Tendencies, Infectious Grooves, Elbow, Auf Der Maur, Velvet Revolver, Metallica, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Deep Purple, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Marcus Miller, Stanley Clarke, Les Claypool, Weather Report, Mick Karn, Jonas Hellborg, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Robert Johnson and many many more ...

Movies:

Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction, Usual Suspects & similar stuff

Television:

I'm sure most stuff on TV makes one stupid. I watch the news (which I need for work), documentaries on travelling or history and some series like 24, Lost, The 4400, The Simpsons, South Park, Malcolm In The Middle, Beavis & Butthead, Monty Python's Flying Circus on DVD. Ok, doesnt make me smarte either. so what ...
What I consider REALLY funny is stuff like this (sorry, it's in german ... believe me, FREAKINGLY funny. It's worth learning the Viennese dialect just to understand this ...)

Books:

phew, I read a lot ... I just don't want to write about it ...

My Blog

no egg bears!

I think I could do that blog in german, as it's one of those "Who wants an 39 yrs old bass player with a real day job" ads, so I don't think the Tool Fighters or somebody similar famous will call and ...

Is there an english word for

11 manifestions of being "fruehvergreist" (= being a geezer at the age of thirtysomething)* You start your story with "Back in 1987 I was ..." and nobody screams: "No way! You're that old?!?" anymore...

Being 38 or: when does it stop?

Ok, I'm 38 now for four months. If I remember correctly, about 20 years ago I thought, being 38 is equivalent to being dead like disco. well, disco raises it's ugly head now and then, thanks to the he...

How bad is bargaining?

Had a disturbing expierience recently: I was interested in an used bass in Germany, a Gibson T-Bird, not a vintage one (which I could never afford) but one of the new ones, from 2001. I had been conta...

The most stupid way to start a blog

Well, this is my first blog entry. And I'll do it the most embarrassing way by posting a card which shows "My Celebrity look-a-likes". Which gives a complety wrong picture of myself. Honestly! I could...
