When was the last time you picked up the phone and Hedy Lamarr or Robin Leach were calling, or when you opened the mail to find a note from Katharine Hepburn or Farrah Fawcett. When you look at your photos, is there one of you with Martin Sheen or Joe DiMaggio? The only person who can answer ‘yes’ to these questions is Artist John Lund.
John Lund has more than a passing fancy for the stars. He has captured the complete essence of these stars on paper. His charcoal and pastel drawings are more than just a likeness, they are a carbon copy of each magnificent face, catching each line, each chiseled feature and each personality.
I was privileged to look through John’s portfolio and I was in awe of this man’s talent. From Cher to Marilyn Monroe, Linda Evans to Clark Gable and Hedy Lamarr to Elizabeth Taylor, this man has a true gift for perfection and detail. The faces seemed to come alive on the page, sometimes with a twinkle of their eye, the curve of a smile or the magnetism captured in each drawing. His skill and creativity are boundless.
When you believe in what you are doing, the rewards come to you ten-fold. I think Katharine Hepburn’s thank you note says it all... “Thank you for your letter. I shall keep it and read it whenever I feel insecure. I think the portrait is amazingly good. I’m surprised. You can’t imagine how rotten most of the drawings are which are sent to me, apparently with total confidence.
