A very brief outline of the history of Cardiff's long time Hip-Hop veteran......
MOBO Awards unsung semi finalist 2002... HMV (Cardiff store) 'Top 5 Monthly Best Seller' October 2001... BBC 1Xtra listeners vote winner in 2003... Best Live Act (Welsh Music Awards 2002)... UK Gold Top Ten (HHC magazine)... also HHC's 'Top 40 Essentials chart'...
his strong stage presence and super-charged live performances have given him the opportunities to open shows and support legends such as Ice T... Grand Master Flash and Afrika Bambaataa...
also supporting UK Hip-Hop pioneer's such as London Posse's Rodney P... New Flesh 4 Old and Blak Twang to name only a few.
Shortly after his Live studio apperance on South Wales most popular commercial radio station Red Dragon FM he found himself included among the list of celebrities in the Wales On Sunday newspaper 'Top 50 Celebrity Eligible Bachelor List 2003' where the next day Johnny B's name got brought up in a live discussion regarding the list on prime time radio's most popular show in the UK the Chris Moyles Show, which led to Johnny B & DJ Keltech's (Grange Hill sampled) single 'Bol X 2 Skool' being used for nearly 2 years as the theme track for BBC Radio One's school features, the biggest feature being "STAR PUPIL" with various version's of pop stars like Lemar... Daniel Bedingfield... Girls Aloud and Feeder speaking over the track...
and the string of musical achievement's go on...
but these merits aren't really what's important here, because if you push them to one side you'll find the bottom line with this long time Cardiff rapper is his genuine passion and love for the Hip-Hop artform which over the years (as a bonus) helped him enjoy a reasonable amount of success earning him the respect of a large growing fan-base.
Born in the spring of 1976 in the heart of Cardiff City, Johnny B set out on his Hip-hop journey at just the tender age of eight as the youngest member of South Wales number one break-dance crew at the time The Street Snakes. Shortly after he picked up the mic and fell in love with rapping, then in the late 80's began recording his first of many demos...
After years of demos & albums on cassette tapes Johnny released his official debut album... 'Am I Still Hip-Hop?'. Recorded in 1997/98 and released the following year through his own label Hillian Records, it was described in HHC Magazine as "the first proper LP to come from Cardiff"
His next two 12" vinyl release's the 'Rhyme Hungry EP' and 'The Name LP' were just as important mile stone's for Johnny as his debut, they both reached top 5 status in HHC's UK Gold Top Ten and received rave reviews in magazines as diverse as NME & Jockey Slut.....
when it comes to his Live shows the passion in Johnny B's rhyming practically doubles on stage making him one of the most enjoyable rapper's to check in the flesh...
