Sound Q first took shape when Kuba Kubica, also known as Cube, discovered to his astonishment that he is able to sing, and that no one really takes offence. Sometime around 2003 he decided to share this information with his friend Jarek Baran, who not only didn't feel offended, but even willingly participated in the first recording session. 4 tracks were recorded that summer in Jarek's studio, and though luckily only a few people happened to hear them, at the time the two gentlemen were quite content of their work. Still, they were far from patting one another on the shoulder, and saying stuff like: "My oh my... that's a damn fine piece of work weve done". Anyway.... though no one had any idea of what to make out of the fact, the first step was made towards "a" something. There were some other steps to follow- in 2004 another demo was recorded. It consisted of the following songs: At Times; Think Pink; Once In a Lifetime and A Prayer to The Deaf. The name SoundQ was first used then, which indicates the initiation of a certain way of thinking: "Well.... there are songs, right? Now.... lets put them under a common phrase, which would most obviously constitute the bands name". This in turn triggered something even more profound: "I need a band" said Cube. The most obvious choice was Jaro.... It was so obvious that it actually went without saying- probably that's why Jaro never really knows if he plays in SoundQ or not- he senses it though. But wouldnt just the two of them look a bit silly? Right.... that's when they decided that they need a full-time, whole-meal DJ.
And the DJ appeared.... no one really knows where he came from, but the fact is that he became the third member of SoundQ at a glance. DJ Furlag brought 2 gramophones, negative attitude and a handful of Gadu-Gadu depressing stats, which would follow SoundQ from then on....
[in the meantime (Summer 2005) two new songs were recorded: Cocoon and Spectres]
