About Me

Thank you for taking the time to check out my music!!.....I'm a drummer/percussionist (28 years old) in the Louisville/Indiana area, and I play/perform/teach quite a bit...... I am the percussion instructor at the KY. SCHOOL FOR THE BLIND, where I teach drums/percussion, do percussion ensemble, jazz band, bluegrass, rock, private lessons, and faculty groups/duties..I'm about to start my third year there, and I LOVE my job..I also teach privately.. In the summer-Fall, I hope to start teaching full-time at MEL OWEN MUSIC (Shelbyville Rd.) .. These 4 cuts are from an album I released in 2006- "Turning the tables"- it serves as a reflection as to where I was at that point in time, both with my writing/playing- and serves as documentation of my influences/style, and hints at where I'm going-...I recieved my degree in Music (BA JAZZ STUDIES) from University of Louisville in 2005, with a History minor...I perform at NIOS, VERSATILE, JAZZ FACTORY, VARANESE, QDOBA, JEFF RUBY'S, VOLARE, COMEDY CARAVAN, ARTEMESIA, and CLIFTON'S PIZZA, among other places. ...I would best describe my style as Chamber Jazz/soul music.. BUT Jazz is only one element of my music, albeit a very obvious element- But Lately I'm starting to fuse alot of avant-garde, fusion, pop/rock, and hip-hop.....I'm very interested in forming a bond with my audience as I get older... This album has 6 originals of mine, 3 cover songs, and a drum solo piece I wrote...We also play covers (jazz/pop/soul music), broad material ranging from Stevie Wonder, Bruce Hornsby, Janis Joplin, Steely Dan, Ray Charles, Doobie Brothers, Grover Washington, Marvin Gaye, Duke Ellington, Beatles, as well as contemporary originals of the band members..... Other interests of mine include boxing, basketball, the arts, History, playing piano, walking, the Highlands, biking, coffee...I also just left UPS after working 7 years (!) and definitely wanna kept in touch with all my former co-workers!!...... I hope you enjoy my music, and please continue to support the arts/live music in the area!I edited my profile at Freeweblayouts.net , check out these Myspace Layouts!

Band Members: I rotate the chairs alot- "turning the tables" so to speak......because I love what each individual artist/voice brings to the group on any given gig at any time.. I like to keep my options open and make my music very inclusive and open-minded...Also schedule-wise, it's worked out for me to have different people know the material............... But generally most of the time the band includes these combinations: --------------Drew Miller, Jake Goran, Dave Clark-saxophones.... Kevin Sparks,-trumpet.. David Dorkin, John Epley, Jake Stith-guitar... Wade Honey, Brian Healey, Anthony Ransom-piano/keyboard... Jenna Mattingly, John Scharfenberger, Lee Puckett- bass... Bobby Falk-myself on the drums and arrangements..
Influences: Main influences on my playing and writing: John Coltrane, Stevie Wonder, Terence Blanchard, Steely Dan, Etta James, Black Gospel/soul music, Louis Hayes, Bruce Hornsby, Geoff Keezer, classical music, Thelonious Monk, Oscar Peterson, Art Blakey, Kenny Garrett, Cannonball Adderley, Earth wind and fire, Isley brothers, Jimmy Cobb, pop music, Tempations, Michael MacDonald, as well as my other fellow musicians and band members... I'm always checking out new music- and listening and learning...
