Hussam Al-Aydi is a professional Middle Eastern musician. Hussam is originally Palestinian born and raised in Qatar, a small country in the Gulf area. He has been playing and studying music since the age of seven. He studied music for 5 years at the College of Music in Cairo, Egypt. His musical talents include: playing the Aoud, Piano, Keyboard, singing and Arabic percussion. He has been playing music professionally for over 15 years. Hussam composes and arranges his own original music like Heartbeat and Rozi Cat. He loves all types of world music, but he especially loves American Blues and Jazz music. He likes to incorporate Spanish, Jazz, and Blues music into his own music creating wonderful Arabic-Jazz/Blues and Arabic-Spanish fusion arrangements.
Throughout his career he has accompanied many of the famous Arabic singers and dancers across the Middle East and Gulf area. Some of the artists he has performed with includes: Ragab Allama, Nancy Ajaram, Allysa, Katia Harb, Howida, Thikra, Nada Riziq, Margo Qasar, Walid Towfik, Abdullah Belkher, and Hussien Al-Jasmi just to name a few. Dancers that have performed with Hussam include: Hindia, Sahar Hamdi, and Mona Al-Saaid.
Hussam is the President of Golden Promise Entertainment, a company he created to bring quality Middle Eastern music and entertainment to Louisville and the surrounding region. In addition to running his company, he is the leader of an Arabic music and dance ensemble called BALADNA. BALADNA, which means “our Country" in Arabic, is a group of talented musicians and dancers that Hussam has gathered together. This diverse group has members from different Arab countries as well as American born musicians and dancers.
Aside from BALADNA, Hussam is involved in many musical projects and is one of the founders of the fusion group Sahara Gypsies, a group which he formed with Russian Musician Misha Feigin and American Funk-master guitarist Mark Hamilton. The three have blended their incredible talents in the areas of Arabic, Russian Gypsy, and American Blues/Funk music respectively to form a unique and inspiring entertainment experience. In addition to Sahara Gypsies, Hussam has recently started performing with the Louisville-based Afro beat group named Ohun. Ohun is a group of phenomenally talented musicians from diverse backgrounds that blend African music with funk, jazz, and reggae to create a fun musical experience.
In addition to performing and composing, Hussam is also an instructor offering private, semi-private, and group lessons on Arabic music for dancers and musicians. He also leads educational workshops on Arabic Music and Culture to Universities, High Schools, and community groups. He believes that music can truly build a “Bridge of Peace†between different cultures, ethnic backgrounds, and religions.
