I was created by Parvati to be Her best and only servant. I do whatever She says. Vishnu's armies could not defeat Me. So Shiva played a trick on Me and cut off My head. So now I have an elephant head. But He liked Me so He gave Me powers and lots of names. I have at least 1008 names. If you are a good ganapatye you will remember them and chant them. Especially on Ganesh Chaturthi!
I am AUM incarnate (Tryakshara Ganapati). That's what My trunk is for. I am the ascetic (Yoga Ganapati), I am merciful (Kshipraprasada Ganapati), I am a creator (Shristi Ganapati), I am short (Vamana Ganapati), I am no form (Anangapujita). I am ridiculously awesome.
