Jazz St. Louis is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization formed in 1995 with a mission to present, promote and perpetuate the best of jazz to the greater St. Louis community, thereby enhancing St. Louis' reputation as an historic and ongoing center of jazz activity. We support this mission with an expanding program of education and outreach.
Jazz St. Louis' concert series, Jazz at the Bistro, presents the finest Jazz musicians in the world to the Greater St. Louis community. Artists such as Joshua Redman, Lou Donaldson, James Moody, Pat Martino, Toots Thielemans, Ann Hampton Callaway, Arturo Sandoval, John and Bucky Pizzarelli and groups such as The Yellowjackets and the World Saxophone Quartet have graced the stage at the Bistro. We also feature the greatest hometown artists such as Erin Bode, Willie Akins, and Montez Coleman.
In addition to the Jazz at the Bistro concert series, Jazz St. Louis has formed two high school student ensembles featuring the most talented young musicians in the St. Louis community. The THF Realty All-Star Student Ensemble is featured at some of the most prestigious events in the city and study with Jazz at the Bistro featured artists. In addition to the bands, additional students are given private lessons to strenghten and broaden their knowledge of the Jazz tradition. Jazz St. Louis also produces Jazz workshops for larger groups of students to study in.
We produce student youth concerts where the featured Jazz at the Bistro musicans travel out into the St. Louis community schools and entertain, teach, and most importantly encourage students to be involved in something.
