About Me

Barnard Lapusata
Separated by land and sea but united by art and music, Darren Barnard and Anthony Lapusata have been writing songs together ever since they stumbled upon each other at Art College.
Darren at the time was messing around with keyboards linked to Atari computers and creating electronic instrumentals while Anthony had just been kicked out of an indie teen band for his awful singing, relentless and still clutching onto his lyrics. The timing couldn't have been better…for a while.
Several years on and the partnership had mutated into a three man band with the inclusion of a temporary new member and then back into a partnership again when Anthony moved to Italy and Darren had day jobbed around until finding foot in the self employed design world. That's when it all really began.
Both being designers, their approach and methodology towards song creation is a lot more design orientated, already knowing what kind of feeling the song should have from the way the lyrics are written and therefore adapting to that. Adding and taking away parts until they have something that sounds right, polishing hard until they progressively see something gleam through, much in the same way they design until having something that looks right.
After a few songs and friendly arguments, thrown at each other in a creative tennis match over the internet, the two realised that they might be onto something good and upon a little self promotion found that people were easily relating to the simple melodic poetry that they were writing. Having seen this surprisingly positive response to their creations, they finally decided to take it all a lot more seriously than previously considered and that's just about where they are today. Now members of The Guild for International Songwriters and Composers, the singer / songwriter partnership are out to produce charmingly heartfelt tunes that might put a few goose-bumps on your neck and maybe even a chill down your spine. Barnard Lapusata are currently writing for either third party artists, TV/Film or to fulfill their ambition and become contracted recording artists under their own banner.
Until now, several songs written and performed by Barnard Lapusata have been broadcast on both UK/US live and web based radio shows receiving modestly encouraging acclaim. Below are a few of the comments and reviews they have picked up regarding their music.

Another really nice song, I really like your style and simple and effective melodies and lyrics. Fine production, playing and singing. Good stuff!!!!!

This is good songwriting. Solid lyrics, lovely structure for pop. Are you the new Simon and Garfunkel perhaps? if so, remember how well they did when they performed their own material...I'd buy this!
Dawn Sinclair - 30 May 2006
Meaningful song, well produced too, really relaxed and the harmony works really well.
Encrypted Complex - 26 May 2006
Simple pop straigt to the top. Nice recording on the guitar and vox. This song reminds me of Freddy and the Dreamers (I loved them so that is a compliment) Great job.
Crockmister - 25 May 2006
This is the quality of work that bands like Travis should be producing at the moment, intelligent lyrics, intelligently written, arranged and played music, altogether a beautiful piece, uplifting and honest. A lovely piece of music all round though.
ConKuss - 26 September 2006
Hey, now this is very nice. Appeals to me a lot, good melody, nicely sung and produced.
Mark Ellis - 22 September 2006
Wow, striking vocals, and a very pretty melody. Something about it makes me think it should be in a musical.
Valerie Willoughby - 22 September 2006
Hi, very strong vocals; they are crystal clear and bang-on. Interesting musically. Melody is very solid, strong and has a pleasurable flow. Interesting lyrics which keep it fresh throughout. Sounds radio-ready. Very catchy. Great work!

The wonderful world... it summons up the feeling of the melody right from the outset. If you like melodic, nice (and i mean nice in a good way) music, this is the right place. The vocal is really strong. Soft tones with power, a great combination that really conveys feeling. The ponderous, imagery led lyrics along with the soft backing for the first verse/chorus lead you in to a false sense of security ... and then the band kicks in to make sure you're listening. It's great to hear people allow the full backing to sit back for so long before kicking in. It really adds to the song and lets you really concentrate and absorb the tune before cranking it up, which as it happens, is done really well. The middle section drops you back to the stripped down vocals before introducing the extra synth backing and most importantly the harmony voices which suit this down to the ground, given it's melodic value, which is really the main force of this tune. Have a look around at the The wonderful world of whereabout's - you won't be dissapointed.
8/10 - Review by: Gary Abbott
This is great! Excellent, moving and clear vocals. Strong melody. Energetic track which sounds radio-ready. Something about it reminds me in a vague way of Keane (I love Keane). Cool stuff!! Keep on writing, obviously the two of you are very talented! Highly enjoyable track!!
