Yeah Yeah Yeahs, "Down Boy"
Jimi Hendrix, "Little Wing"
The Gruesomes, "Get Outta My Hair"
Bob Marley, "Stir It Up"
Do As Infinity, "Shinjitsu No Uta"
This is another result of my devotion to Adult Swim. I heard this song in the end credits of Inuyasha a long time ago and was sort of haunted by it.
I finally decided to pay attention and find out what it is. I think I like J-Pop.
Idan Raichel, "Hinach Yafah"
RJD2, "Beyond the Beyond"
Praveen Sharma, "Embers"
Spoon, "I Summon You"
Jamiroquai, "Feels So Good"
The Duke and Orchestra, "Isfahan"
Esthero, "Gone"
Amel Larrieux, "For Real"
After quite a while of being stuck in an angry rock phase, I feel my tolerance for R&B returning. Maybe I'm losing some of that spiky cynicism I've been clutching to and letting myself hope for a day I can sincerely sing a song like this about someone. *SIGH*
Aesop Rock, "None Shall Pass"
The Noisettes, "Mind the Gap"
I found out this band is opening for Bloc Party @ the Tabernacle in Atlanta (a show that i'm already estatic over) so I checked them out. GOOD NEWS: i love it. I'm already click clicking at iTunes to make sure i know every word by the show on the 31st. oh joyLead singer and bassist, Shingai Shoniwa has the sweet vocals of her countrywoman, Corinne Bailey Rae, but adds a welcome bit of sour with her hard rock edge. If your as enamoured with the latest rush of soul-tinged punk as I am, DEFinitely check on this one.
Yoko Ono ft. The Brother Brothers, "Yes, I'm a Witch"
Bloc Party, "(Disappear Here"
Bullet for My Valentine, "All These Things I Hate"
Muse, "Invincible" They may be bonefide Radiohead wannabes, but, as far as bands goes, who isn't. I think they do a pretty rockin job.
Muse, "Starlight"
NIN, "Just Like You Imagined"
Mark Linn, "Spin"
Divi Baby, "Hot Tottie"
I saw Divinity play this live over a year ago. I remember thinking it was a hit and good news: it sounds good on the record too! This is my current theme song. Ay shawty!
Imani Coppola, "Dirty Pictures"
Camutao, "Plot for a Little"
This is another Adult Swim find. I looooove this song.
Flyleaf, "Fully Alive"
Imani Coppola, "Dirty Pictures"
Devin the Dude, "Unity for U and Me"
holy hell! i think i just found my new theme song - The Brother Brothers' reworking of Yoko Ono, "Yes, I'm a Witch"
Crazy As She Goes.
Philip Glass
Rage Against the Machine keeps getting ripped off MySpace. I guess none of the spaces were official and the band (their team) is incredibly diligent about taken down fake pages. It's too bad, though. I really wanted "Guerilla Radio" in my Space.
Imani Coppola
This is more found-somehow music. I've not listened to much of it yet but this chick seems supercool, brutally raw, honest - Exactly my kind of artist. And then, in her pictures she's captioned the below photo, "stealing the rainbow back from the homos." Gosh, I think I'm in musical love. And then she's playing Center Stage on my birthday. Must be meant!
adult swim, yeah!
This was one of those records I bought, then forgot about. I found it again by accident, browsing the pod one day. Five Eight's "Square Peg" is officially my theme song... for now. I've always felt like a square peg. Don't mind it so much now, though :)
It was really hard for me to remove Mark Linn from my profile because i fucking love his music right now. Still, i'm so exciting about the new developments in my life that i just had give Res some play (i love her too, though she's making us all wait so damn long for the album). this song just feels so appropriate right now because i am definitely ON MY WAY!
Ok, get ready to thank me. I was searching for a jazz song i'd heard in a store on iTunes when I stumbled upon Mark Linn.
Who know such soul could spring from Denmark (sorry Danes)? On his new album, "The Minutes" Linn tempers a soulful JT-esque voice with some believable hard rock. e.g. his "Spin" - one of my other favorites so far. This guy's ability to convincingly cross genres puts him in exclusive category of artists i just love, like Esthero and Res. Unfortunely the MTV&Radio machine that is music makes it rough for artists that create so freely to be as popular as they should be. It's hard to categorize them - that is, harder to sell them.
