About Me

SURR3AL1S ("surrealist") was conceived in the mid 1990s as serendipity's travel agent and foil for the premillenial lust for two dimensional "reality" in music. The "concrete" has negated the acknowledgement of the occult and paranormal in society and art alike. The Witchcatchers and holy men of Africa, the shamen of early America, yogis of India, to the "holiness" churches of the American South; all peoples recognize some spiritual connection to sound wave repetition, color based sound modulation within a key/scale, and trance inducing, overlapping "loops". Even within "alternative" churches, like (LaVey's) Church of Satan, Wiccans, Druids, etc.; all have ritualised music that is centered on the process of evoking matter (gray or other wise). In keeping with Surrealism as a study of dreamstates and the subconcious mind, SURR3AL1S seeks to paint pictures and conjur images with soundwaves for this subconscious uninhibited dream state (or however one becomes as free as possible of the mathematical mind). The unknown is often dark, rough terrain and we prefer it that way. In not so ancient times, musician equalled magician not (just) entertainer. The incorporation of world music, sound sculpture, and a pure study of sound outside the confines of musical structure MARRIED WITH the inescapable Western traditions of harmony and melody are our focus. Our catalog straddles numerous genres; so check us out often to see what style we're showcasing and what genre we're claiming presently. Long live the CHURCH OF SONOLOGY!! Not really a bio? Good!
