TURAMBAR BIOGRAPHY
This mighty band was forged in 2002 from shards of BLACKENED GOAT TONGUE and VILE RUNE; both great forces in laying the ultimate foundation for Colorado's local Doom scene. TURAMBAR was in deep from day one; writing some of the slowest, longest, screeching epics that few had the hearts to withstand. Kali, Olvynn and Jakob burned through auditioning and temporary drummers as though they were packs of stale cigarettes. Notions of a frontman, or a main-vocalist were soon admonished after several egos pled their talents in copious futility. The then drummerless trio both decided to opt for their own primal growl, the throated scream which lay within each of them already; and to take in a beleagured hesher who would frantically thrash the skins of his kit... The first demo was recorded live in a basement using two adats, with vocals overdubbed in a heavily porcelainated bathroom. It was a spear through the gate; a foot in the door...
After a lengthy string of local shows, plans were laid for the mighty SHoD fest V. Firing said drummer, and taking on another (John Deer ex: Blackened Goat Tongue, now: DeerCreek). TURAMBAR set West, laying the first real print of their art outside the fortressing mountains. Return from the mini-tour brought reprise. Andy Pfiefer (ex: BlackLamb, ex:Legion of Death, now: Krakatau), later named 'Andor' by the group, leapt forth with the proclomation that 'this' was his life's calling. Andy mounted the drums with authority and changed the face of music as any might have understood it before. A bassist for nearly two decades, Pfiefer rang through with tempos that made the heavens quake, the demons shudder, and our bloody souls come alive! His influences were seeply rooted in the Southern Rock genre, though his passion for music threw him into something much heavier. Just six weeks after his joining, shows were on with Weedeater, High on Fire, Place of Skulls and more. Soon, TURAMBAR recorded their first real-release, 100% analogue; putting out the very-limited edition, self-titled 10" record. Two tracks: eighteen minutes of fucking cosmic Biker Doom, "Fallen Dream" and "Ride the Thermals", released by both GAME TWO and OUR HOLLOW DEATH...
Countless shows continued to be booked, and countless hours of material seemed to be written and re-written, shaved and fine-tuned. A long year past and TURAMBAR headed back for the one inch reel, again working with Time Capsule Studios. Before self-production was complete, a sojourn was made to the second TEMPLARS OF DOOM fest in Indianapolis; host of inumerable spectacular acts. Coming home, the foursome realized need for a hiatus and took leave from playing live until the new album was officially released....
They did it themselves, production, studio costs, manufacturing expenses; one thousand copies of seventy-four minutes of pure fucking DOOM, naming the self-promoted label 'DOOMED BARD PRODUCTIONS'. This is, as yet, the latest release. 2006, also welcomed TURAMBAR to SHoD fest VII, in Mesa AZ. Again, ground-breaking exposure and sharing of brutal art and thrashing of heads, led to the desire, of some, for more...
These last couple of years have left TURAMBAR with the ominous clouds of Doom indeed. Founding member (bassist/vocalist) Kali left (see blog entry for her farewell), to be replaced by a member, Rhianon (ex:Somnus), whose lifespan only held nine months of preformance and spirtual gestiation. The group also lost Andor; who was swallowed by his new-found employment at a harley shop...
...only to refound! Andy Fuckin Pfiefer has come back to record the new album!
Yeah. This is the fucking outstanding news : TURAMBAR is alive and well!
Mike Dread (ex: MoodSyrup, native to Colorado), has allied within and seen the road; weaving phenominal tone and subsonic hammering. This shit is only growing fucking stronger...
