Yo Ho Ho! A-Rovin We Go...Drinken Our Rum & Porter

About Me

So you've discovered the official band myspace page for Rum Rebellion from Portland, OR, so dance a jig or drink some booze or do both if you're feeling risky. You can also find us on the web at www.rumrebellion.net. For booking, you can send us messages here or email us at: [email protected]. Our press kit is downloadable from our website as well.
We started about three years back playing Irish trad stuff and some covers, all acoustic. We added bass & drum in fall '05, started playing shows in Jan '06, and have thus far had the good fortune to come a long way since then, playing with a lot of bands we love and seeing places up & down the West Coast that we would have never seen were it not for this band. Of course there have been a few bumps in the road, but for the most part we have grown, learned, and shared adventures together. So far it's been a fucking blast and we look forward to the future and the new places we'll be going. Look for us in your town this summer as we set sail on our first US tour in August. We might even leave your town standing if yer lucky...
We're not huge into politics but generally we believe in equality, thinking for yourself, and everyone's rights to basic human freedoms. There's a lot of bullshit that goes on in this world and if people could UNIFY, get past petty shit, get some solidarity and actually work together on the BIG PICTURE, then maybe the punks and skins could actually have the impact and make the difference that we've all wanted to make for so long. Oh yeah, we're also big into exploring this amazing planet that we live .. all the really cool places get clearcut and bulldozed) and we also tend to drink way too much. But shit, you only live once so we're gonna have fun while we're here.
CHEERS to everyone who has come to our shows and supported us on the way! A tour & new tracks are on the way for 2008!

"Crusin For A Boozin" is the first full length album from Rum Rebellion, an "Oirish" band from Portland, Oregon. The first thing I'd like to point out are the amount of original songs on this album. Nine out of eleven! There's obviously some talented songwriters in this gang of ruffians, no doubt. Then there's the music... Damn! For only being together for roughly a year and a half, these guys must have some weird telepathic thing going on here...The tin whistle, guitar, fiddle, and bouzouki seem to flow together like a musical stream of whiskey, backed up with a solid set of drumbeats and bass lines. The vocals accompany the music perfectly, and sound as if Popeye was clutching an empty bottle of rum instead of a can of spinach! (Spinach is bad for you nowadays!) Another thing I'd like to mention are the amount of sea shanties! I think every track makes at least once reference to something nautical, so at least you know this reviewer is happy!”

“Ready to get rough and rowdy? Then let's throw down with Portland's best mix of Irish, punk, and sea shanties, courtesy of Rum Rebellion! Don't be surprised if spontaneous drunken pirate-inspired thrash-dancing breaks out on the floor. Dress appropriately -- It’s gonna get messy!”
Portland Mercury - August 24th '06

Influences: the Pogues, the Dubliners, Stiff Little Fingers, Nyah Fearties, Big Bad Bollocks, Blood or Whiskey, Mutiny, Cock Sparrer, too many to list.

Sounds Like: Drunken piratey sea-chanties mixed with Punk Rock/Oi! anthems and Irish Traditional folk style music; what we like to call Oi!Rish.
