R.O.B.T.F. will perform live this Saturday night (June 28th) at 3 Ushi Club for the first time since the tragic lost ot our drummer Tzuro. It was hard and took long time, but we have to go on because of our music, all of the devoted fans and mainly becuse of his memory. We'll hit the stage with two new members - drummer Dobri and lead vocal O.J. instead of Nufry. Live will contain more than one hour of our known tracks and some new songs which will be presented to the audience for the very first time. Be our guests! Hope we'll meet there!
BAND DESCRIPTION:Well known for its specific electro-acoustic sound, R.O.B.T.F. (Robot Orbital Base Techno Factory) is one of the most original bands on Bulgarian music stage. Its performance style could not be strictly defined, but it is most associated with drum and bass, breakbeat, jungle and some elements of ghoa. The band is an innovator in the development of electronic music, preformed by live instruments – drums, keyboards, guitar and vocals.
BIOGRAPHY:The keyboardist/programmer Zdravko “ZZ†Mineff (age 33) formed R.O.B.T.F. in 1997 as an experimental solo project. The first record “Robot Labs†(1998) was entirely produced and recorded by him and drummer Michael “Tzuro†Ylanadjiev (age 32) was integrated as a consultant and support. Both of them are famous among the music audience for their appearance in two of the most progressive young Bulgarian bands in 90’s – Crash and Alien Industry. In these early years, the R.O.B.T.F. music style is mainly orientated in psychedelic trance, ambient and ghoa. Their first live performances are mostly club gigs and the first major event for the band is their participation as a support act for Metalheadz concert in Sofia in September 1999. R.O.B.T.F. also is one of the major acts in “Festival for Electronic Musicâ€, promoted by DS Music in Indigo Club in Sofia in 1999.
Few months later guitarist Dobrin “Malkia†Philipov (age 34) played in bands Crash and Era enters the band. By the way, band’s specific style turned to generally drum’n’bass/experimental/electronica direction. Main difference between R.O.B.T.F. and the other electronic projects in Bulgaria is their idea to present electronic music by active partaking of acoustic instruments. In 2000 the second R.O.B.T.F. album “Ability To Connect†is recorded, but still not officially released. R.O.B.T.F. gain wide popularity in audience and critics. The track “Learn to Manipulate the Energy†enters the first official electronic compilation in Bulgaria, released by Rhythm Magazine in 2000. At the same time, a side project of ZZ Mineff unofficially was released containing 50-minutes remixes of the cult Bulgarian band New Generation.
In 2000, R.O.B.T.F. remixed the Babyface Clan song “The Robotâ€, officially released in their “Romantica†album.Not long after that bassist Boyan “Epeto†Zlatkov join the band. He is notable for his work with Obscure and Plastic Hi Fi. Moreover, the last band member entering R.O.B.T.F. was vocalist / MC Dimiter “Nufry†Vassilev (age 35) - famous figure of Bulgarian music scene, known by Pyromania, Plastic Hi Fi ,Groovybonecrusher and Panican Whyasker.
This finally shaped the R.O.B.T.F. new face, completely relying on the mixture of electronic sound and live instruments.
In the summer of 2002 third record “Green Level†was live recorded at O Shipka Plaza, produced and released by R.O.B.T.F. The track of the same name “Green Level†was included in the “O Shipka†compilation, released by Toxity Records.A month later R.O.B.T.F. performed at the next edition of “Festival for Electronic Musicâ€, promoted by DS Music, shearing the stage with Jimi Tenor, Transglobal Underground and Fun Da Mental.
R.O.B.T.F. is an initiator and originator of Jim Beam Cube Festival which first edition was in April 2003 in The Military Club, Sofia. R.O.B.T.F. and Panican Whyasker were the headliners of the festival. The second edition of Jim Beam Cube Festival was few months later in Sozopol where 11 bands took part on a larger scale. R.O.B.T.F. already have a new bass player – Alexander Yanev, playing with Panican Whyasker and Nassecomix.In the fall of 2003, the band was a participator for the 15th issue of the International Computer Art Forum “Computer Spaceâ€. After many club gigs in Bulgaria R.O.B.T.F. become headliners of the third edition of Jim Beam Cube Festival in the Summer Theatre, Sofia in September 2003.
“Eco-Teleporter†(2004) is the last official band record, produced by R.O.B.T.F. and realized by Vitality Music. Through the years their music style undergo many changes and the critics describes it as an interesting mixture of jungle, Drum’n’Bass, breakbeat and ambient. The musicians characterize themselves as a wave of “Green Energy Fusionâ€.In 2005 R.O.B.T.F. was nominated in the category “Best alternative album†on the annual awards of ?? Music Television. Later on R.O.B.T.F., participate to the compilation “40 Years Coca Cola in Bulgaria†with cover version of the cult Bulgarian band Review song “Direktor na Vodopadâ€.
Nowadays the band members are Zdravko “ZZ†Mineff, Mihael “Tzuro†Yalandjiev, Dobrin “Malkia†Philipov and Dimiter “Nufry†Vassilev. R.O.B.T.F. prepares its future project, informally called “Jedi Business†and looks forward for its nearest realization.
