New Generation

New Generation (1987-1992)
It all began in 1985 when Dimitur Voev and Vassil Gyurov (then playing in the band Paradox) decided to make something different. That was when Kalle, one of the first Bulgarian post-punk bands, was born. Kiril Manchev joined them and they started playing, deciding that the main accent would be on lyrics. The first official performance of Kalle was in 1987 at the first Rock Festival in Sofia in The Summer Theatre. There they performed their songs 'Grandchildren' and 'Uncle' and in the middle of 'Kalle`s Epitaph' their microphones were switched off and they were stopped and banned from performing at this festival the following year. But the audience`s reaction was different. They were screaming louder than the sound from the microphones. In 1988 Kalle officially broke up. Vassil Gyurov suggested that they could form a band called New Generation, named after Dimitur Voev`s lyrics for 'New Generation Forever', but later he formed Milena (later known as Review) together with Milena Slavova and Kiril Manchev. The idea of New Generation still remained though. In 1988-1989 Dimitur Voev, Kristian Kostov, Mihail Peshev and Alina Tringova (with Kiril Manchev as a guest musician) got together under that name. In 1989 their first record BG Rock (together with Kontrol) was released. In 1990 the band (Voev, Alina, Katya and Dimitur Popov) played in Berlin at the Songs festival. Later that year Alina, Kiril, Kristian and Mihail went to Canada and Dimitur Popov to Luxembourg. In 1991 the band (Voev, Katya, Georgi Stoilov (Mephisto) and Simeon Voev) released their first cassette - Forever. In the Summer of 1991 they made a tour round North Bulgaria. On October 19th 1991 the first Bulgarian dark wave party was released in Sofia. There New Generation played improvisations together with Violetov General. In the beginning of November (1991 again) the 'New Generation' fan club organised the first Eco Rock Festival in Bulgaria in support of the people from Rousse. The festival was covered by CNN. In 1992 the album Forever was released again, this time with two new songs - 'Scorpios Dance Aone' and 'The Fly'. On May 7th 1992 the band had a concert in Sofia (the Bulgaria hall). One of New Generation`s last performances was at the National Student Eco Festival (organised by 'Rythm' newspaper).In memory of Dimitur Voev (1965-1992). R.I.P.
