ACT 2 Records discovered Ohsha Kai at their open auditions held in Philadelphia this past August. Philly born Ohsha has been singing since she can remember. Raised in a home filled with the sounds of gospel greats such as Andre Crouch, Vicky Winans and Shirley Ceasar, she was deeply influenced by soulful riffs, heartfelt melodies, and passionate powerhouse vocals. She wasn't exposed to dance music until high school, and as she recalls, "the first time I heard house music, I knew I was in love". Ohsha worked professionally in Philly doing backup vocals for several of R&B singers and Hip-hop artist. However Ohsha realized she was being pigeonholed into urban music, and really wanted to pursue her passion, dance music. Her first release on ACT 2 was an upbeat soulful dance stomper called "Free Your Mind", written by Josh Harris and was released in the summer of 2006. Seldom do new artists in this genre of music rise to the top so quickly. WMC 2006 was deemed "...the year of Ohsha Kai†by renown mixed show Promoter Harry Towers of Deet Promotions. Soon after Ohsha took the #1 spot on the Billboard Breakout Charts in early July and over the weeks rising to #6 on the actual chart (all top 5 spots being filled by major label artists). She spent a total of 15 weeks on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play Chart. “Free Your Mind†also cut through the masses, the 1000’s of dance tracks to rise to iTunes’ Top Ten list (Dance).Now Ohsha is poised to follow up with a brand new single “Out of My Mind†written and produced by newcomer Joey C. of Juice Up Records due to release May ’07. A track that is sure to be a worldwide dance hit!
