About Me

" . . . human progress never rolls in on wheels of inevitability; it comes through the tireless efforts of men willing to be co-workers with God, and without this hard work time itself becomes an ally of the forces of social stagnation. We must use time creatively, in the knowledge that the time is always ripe to do right."-------Martin Luther King ___________________________________________________________â €œEach time a man stands for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current which can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.”---------Robert Kennedy ___________________________________________________________T his is what my life looks like when I can help it:

My favorite memories of Chris Himle

Since I'm stuck in Bangkok and unable to participate (heartbroken, man), I offer the following contribution to the Chris Himle Life Celebration that I imagine is raging on throughout the cities of Ch...

The Pakistan Chronicles

Now that I'm in China and my mother can sleep at night, I have a few words to say about my short but highly enjoyable stint in Pakistan, presented in short, easily digestible, bite-sized pie...

Everything is covered in poop

Most train stations in India have a separate line for foreigners to buy tickets.  I was in one today and the sign told me it was not only for foreigners, but also for blind people, deaf...

The sorcerer with the magical image-capturing box

So much tings to say right now. One of the things I dislike about these travelog deals is that I'm a tremendous slacker and I tend to let so much time elapse between entries that I don't know what st...

Super Bowl party in Rangoon

It all feels a bit subversive being in an internet cafe in Myanmar (Burma).   The tight regulations of the oppressive military junta running the country include, among other (much worse) thi...

Back in Bangers, get me the hell out of here.

Bangkok becomes less tolerable every time I come here.  I used to imagine that I would someday find the hidden charm of this shithole of a city, but I see now that it ain't gonna happen because i...

Zeya and I are in Ranong now, a delightfully charming town for no reason in particular, on the northern tip of Thaland's west coast.  The locals here aren't nearly as used to seeing western ...
