About Me

Sonia Tetlow writes and performs with an intensity that, "slaps your face like the first time you heard Patti Smith blow dust out of the radio." (Hal Horowitz, Atlanta Press). A diverse and talented multi-instrumentalist, she has toured extensively around the United States and also played in Ireland and Mexico. Along the way she’s been honored to play with Patti Smith, Indigo Girls, John Boutte, Caroline Aiken, Big Head Todd and the Monsters, Hootie and the Blowfish, Sister Hazel, Ivan Neville, Craig Klein, Shamarr Allen, Susan Cowsill, Raymond Weber, Mark Mullins, the Gin Blossoms, Kelly Joe Phelps, and many other fine artists. Tetlow has also had the pleasure of performing on the Ellen Degeneres Show, Atlanta and Company with Holly Firfir, the Louisiana Jukebox, WWL, WDSU, WWOZ, 99X, 92.9 DAVE FM, 88.5 WRAS, as well as other news and radio broadcasts.
Besides being a prolific songwriter in her own right, Tetlow has collaborated on songs with Paul Sanchez (Cowboy Mouth, Paul Sanchez Rolling Road Show), John Thomas Griffith (Red Rockers, Cowboy Mouth), Fred LeBlanc (Cowboy Mouth, Dash Rip Rock) and David Torkanowsky (Astral Project, Irma Thomas), and was awarded four writing credits on Cowboy Mouth’s 2006 release, “VooDoo Shoppe.” Her lyrics have been called, “uncompromising yet undeniably intimate,” (Michael Andrews, Athens Flagpole) and her music runs the gamut from, “rocking with a barely contained intensity,” (Hal Horowitz, Atlanta Press) to, “mellow but soulfully intoxicating,” (Jeff Clark, Stomp and Stammer).

I played everything on MOUTH TO MOUTH and FROM A SEED OF SAND. SPIT and SWERVE were recorded with my band STB with T. Lee Kennedy on bass and Becky Shaw on drums.

Influences: Everything.
Sounds Like: Depends on the record and the song, but folks have said my stuff sounds like PJ Harvey, the Pretenders, Iggy and the Stooges, Patti Smith. But then, the new record's much mellower and has some Daniel Lanois-like textures to it. Go figure. Hope you enjoy.
