I play guitar and write music.
I have been playing music since I was a little kid and have been playing guitar for 20 years!!! I love good music. Though I define myself as a jazz-guitarist I do a lot of work outside the jazz-world. Lots of pop, rock and singer/songwriter-type things. If the music is good I'm happy
My playing was described like this in a Finish review: "Mads Kjolby plays with feeling, with a less-is-more attitude and with a great sense of style. A good role-model for many guitarists".
I think that is a very good statement on how I approach my playing.
I went to Musician's Institute in LA in 1995 and graduated from The Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen in 2003. I have a studied with a lot of great guys but now I seem to find my inspiration in life in Copenhagen. My music seems to reflect everyday life here. It's groovy, atmospheric, melodic and swinging. I hope you like it!
For the last 10 years I have toured all over the world. I have played in China, Russia, Scandinavia, Baltikum, the Middle East, France, Cuba and the US. I have played with so many great artists: Kim Nazarian (NY Voices) and Jay Ashby from the US; Leonid Vintskevich and David Goloshokin from Russia, Bobby Carcasses from Cuba; Severy Pyssalo from Finland; Gilad Atzmon and Steve Waterman from England and many many more. From time to time I am playing with the Danish Radio Orchestra and being part of that band has given me the opportunity to play with such greats as Dee Dee Bridgewater, Simply Red and even West Life.
