About Me

A. Waters Photography Website
My father was a photographer, his father was a photographer, and I was the only girl in a brood of boys. So I followed my dad around with a camera in an effort to keep up.
I've been shooting professionally since 1986. In the beginning I broke in by shooting up-and-coming bands in town and out on the road. The first breaking band that really gave me a shot was Nine Inch Nails. I told their tour manager that I wanted to learn to shoot live bands, so he gave me my first ever photo pass. (::heart:: MarkO!)
Since then I've shot tons of bands from NIN to No Doubt, but in my own time I seek out old cemetery angels around Chicago, Houston and New Orleans. I've been published many times, but I only just started showing seriously (or not, really, if you know me) in the past 3 years. It's a pretty raw thing, to put yourself out there. Very unnerving.
My most recent exploration is "trashing out" my photos by using old toy cameras and whatever wonky film/filter combo I can. I'll be showing the medium format toy stuff in the Spring. Until then, my work may be seen at Landmark Arts Gallery at 841 W. Randolph in Chicago.

Street Photography: Chinatown from the Hip

Shot about a month ago during an afternoon walking around in Chinatown. All pics were "shot from the hip" meaning just that. No flash, camera held down by the hip for purely candid shots. Experimental...
