The Life of a Trucker's Wife

I am a trucker's wife.
I live a different life.
My husband is gone 21 days straight
You holler at yours if he is five minutes late
Miles from home all the thoughts race through his brain
Still 20 days til he sees home again.
He drives the country in a big truck blowing smoke.
Thinking the grass needs to be cut and the dryer is broke.
I do all the chores and do it with pride.
I do it so he won't worry on his ride.
My heart freezes with every ring of the phone.
Has he been hurt or is he coming home?
The kids are fine dear yeah they have had their bath.
Be proud of your son he got an A in math.
I know for him there is no choice.
He has to listen to that little voice.
The one that says diesel is in your bloodstream.
To make him stay home now that would be mean.
Mile after mile he chases that dollar.
To leave something behind for the kids to follow.
I sink when he leaves but I wave and I smile.
It's ok! Go! I will be alright in a while.
I try to support him and I try to be strong
At times it gets tough with him gone that long.
I keep myself busy so the time will fly by.
I don't have time to worry and cry.
I don't have to worry about what he is doing out there.
Because I know it is a great love that we share.
He is my hero -- Thank God he is in my life.
And I am VERY PROUD TO BE A TRUCK DRIVERS WIFE!!
