I like to dream. I like to shine. to write. to be quiet and loud at the same time. to swager to a trough. to know the way home. what?..
anyone who is not The Suck
it is all about the early 90's. Pearl Jam, Rage Against the Machine, Tool, Alice In Chains, NIRVANA, Soundgarden. But you gots to mix that up with Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Tom Waits... oh and you need some Johnny Cash in your life.
Are you ready?
Here are my top five.
1. ..JAWS
I mean come on. we got a young director here. the stupid shark only worked for
one day. he had every obstacle you can imagine and yet the movie changed the
way America looked at sharks. It sparked all kinds of stupid shark killing sprees.
It really freaked people out. Not to mention, that if you look back and compare
the shark to say any creature in Star wars, the shark still looks great.
2. 2001: a Space Odessy
A timeless classic. I could fill this page talking about this flick but I won't bother.
Kubrick was a genius..he is very missed!
3. The Thin Red Line
ok yeah it is like three hours long...but what a beautiful picture..such grace with
the camera movements. I had never been so mesmerized by cinematography.
In my opinion Terrance Malik is going to be one of the greatest directors of my
lifetime. He really pulls the performance out of the actor and the location..just
breathtaking. it really made me feel like I was watching poetry in motion!
4. Magnolia
P.T Anderson knocked it out of the park here. One of the best casts ever
assembled and the greatest collection of performances ever. When William H.
Macy comes out with the whole " I have love in heart to give" speech..well it
moves me every time! And who can forget the raining frogs!
5. A Clockwork Orange
Again Kubrick is the best! Ground breaking movie..you know they actually tried to
rate this X in America when it first came out...today it would probably be NC-17
right now Heros, BSG and Lost...if you dont know what BSG is then you might be The Suck mentioned above...
I hate the music here but the imagery encapsulates what is great about BSG
Breakfast of Champions
Nuff Said
The title Watchmen is derived from the phrase Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?, from Juvenal's Satire VI, "Against women" (c. AD 60-127), often translated as "Who watches the watchmen?""I hear always the admonishment of my friends:
'Bolt her in, and constrain her!'
But who will watch the watchmen?
The wife arranges accordingly, and begins with them."
