ROADSIDE PROPHETS (Review)

Having sat behind a stage in the middle of illinois with the great John Wesley Harding, singing him a song i hoped he might like, i was given instead a bit of advice. JWH took my guitar from me and gave me a quick lesson on how folk singers should sing. the advise was loud and close to my face and had a bit of spittle in it. look em in the eye, sing it like you know they think it too.
i don't know if phillip bailey had a mentor who told him how to sing right into your ear, but he learned to do it somehow. the songs he writes are timely, direct, honest, flawed, incredibly bare, and quite full of spittle.
you will believe phillip, and you will ove what he has to say. if you love billy bragg, john weslye harding, the clash, or the pogues, you MUST hear this man. he has that voice. he has that fuel. he has those burning, fertile words!
take some advise from a roadside prophet and get your hands on these songs of hope and knowing. it is always better to have the first album from your future favorite artist. get it while it' s hot!
