The band was born in 2000 with the name Checkmate, composed by Massi (guitar and vocals), Fede (guitar and vocals), Mati (bass), and Tommi V (drums). The Checkmate recorded two self-produced demos, following Californian melody-core bands, such as No Use For A Name. During three years the band plays a good number of shows; in 2003 the band split up, then came back on March 2004, with the new name Happiness for Madness, after the loss of singer Massi, moved to another town. On may 2005 H4M also lost bassist Mati, replaced by Tommi B, coming from other experiences (Big-S-, 4 Darken The Sun, Me Against You). Happiness for Madness, with the new three-members line up, recorded their first demo in summer 2005. Still in summer H4M played their first gigs, and in October, the band met the new born booking & promotion agency High Tension. On Jauary 2006 the band inserted Dario, guitar and keyboard player.
In December 2006 the band even loses Fede.
