About Me

I've gone by many names....Nick, Arsonic....Ok, maybe just those two. But the point is this is a one man band. I've been playing music since about 1993 when I bough my first Bass. I was in a poppy punk band called "Humor" in California during High School. We weren't as cool as we thought we were, it turns out. After Hight School I moved to Utah where I met Chans & Jared at a skatepark. They were trying to start an old school punk band, but need a Bass player. I only took my clothes when I moved to Utard, so I went out and bought the cheapest Bass & amp I could find. We played under the name "Frankensystem" from late 1999 until the wheels fell off around 2002. About the time the band fell apart I was introduced to the Pogues & Greenland Whalefishers by our neighbor on Hawkes Ct. Chans came home one day out of nowhere with an Accordion. So not to be out-done, I went out and picked up a Tenor Banjo. We started learning traditional Irish tunes and going to the Irish sessions in Salt Lake. We wanted to start a band, but realized that it wouldn't work, cos we couldn't play while we were drinking. Well I had a kid and the wife wanted to be closer to her family, so we moved to hell on earth: Lake Havasu, Arizona. I didn't have any friends nor did I want any (everyone there is an asshole), so I decided to learn as many instruments as I could get my hands on. I learned how to play the penny whistle, the mandolin, accoustic guitar, and the fiddle. I also bought an accordion from Chans and I even learned how to hold it. After 2 years of living in Arizona my wife finally couldn't stand living there anymore so I packed our stuff and moved back to Salt Lake. Chans and I started playing and going to the sessions again. By now we had both gotten pretty good and could play while drinking! We decided to try and make a song up one day by making up new music to an old Frankensystem song called "When I get drunk". It took us all of 15 minutes to make it up. We decided to call Jared and try to form a band. Chans came up with the name "Salt Lake Whalefishers" as a joke, but I thought it was perfect, so we kept it. We got Dave to play Bass, and his girlfriend Hattie to play fiddle. I wrote drums on my drum machine and at first things were going great. Chans decided he didn't want to play in the band anymore, so I started recording the songs by myself on my 4-track. I think he got excited when I showed him what I'd done, and he started to play in the band again. This only lasted a couple of months though, when he dumped me for some so-called paying gigs. So now I've decided to go it alone. I've vowed one day to become the world's most rich and powerful tenor banjo player. Even more so than the world's current most rich and powerful tenor banjo player (whoever that is). I've realized while writing this that you probably don't give two shits, so I'll stop......... Recently Jared and I have started playing together again. We've been writing new songs, so i'll try and get something new on here.
