As a young girl, I was so into music often dancing, singing or impersonating my favorite artist. Back then I kept an open ear for Michael Jackson, New Edition, MC Lyte, Mary J Blige, Salt-N-Pepa, etc. They kept me motivated and inspired.I began rapping at the age of 12. My styles consisted of positive rap (preaching unity) and gangsta-talk smack rap (which was not my lifestyle nor had I any personal knowledge of it except what I heard through the media). I performed at schools, talent shows, and clubs. Better known as Smooth Lady D I did my thing for the world. By my senior year in high school I was well known in the city. After I graduated I had my life mapped out. My music was doing well and I was on my way. But on New Year's Eve '93 I had my last performance as a secular artist. God came tugging at my heart in Jan '94 and I couldn't resist! At the age of 18, I accepted JESUS CHRIST as my Personal Savior! HALLELUJAH! WHAT A BLESSING IT IS TO HAVE EYES TO SEE AND EARS TO HEAR WHAT THE SPIRIT IS SAYING! Shortly after the new birth the LORD revealed to me the gifts and talents He had placed in me. I purchased my first keyboard and began producing, writing and arranging my songs all by ear. During this time "Smooth Lady D" the rap artist no longer existed. GOD was bringing me through a transition allowing me to learn the truths about HIM and HIS word.It took some time for to me to accept that GOD had given me the talent to rap since much talk about it was so confusing. For years, I spoke against Christian Rap declaring that it was evil not realizing that GOD had birthed this same talent in the midst of my heart. In 2002 I returned to rap music this time representing my Deliverer, my Helper, my Father and Friend. I experienced a lot during the transition- heartbreak, disappointments, rejection all of which affected my self esteem. I knew that GOD was going to use me through rap so I sought HIM for a new name. Smooth Lady D is not who GOD had called me to be. HE calls me TREASURE because I am a treasured and valuable possession unto HIM and HE wants me to remind HIS people that WE ARE VALUABLE, PRECIOUS JEWELS in HIS hand. That's why HE gave HIS life....there wasn't anything else worth giving to pay the price for such an awesome creation. My first single, HOLDN ON, was released on March 3, 2006. Since then I've gotten nothing but good responses. Bless GOD! This song was created as I dwelled in the presence of GOD. HE was speaking to me and I laid down every track the way I heard it from heaven. My friend, Veya Edwards, is also on this single. So, if you're in PA,DE,NJ, check it out on PRAISE 1590 AM. Also, tune into www.spiritco1.com you'll find it there too! Look for the full CD coming soon!By His Grace, TREASURE
