Raphaël Delan, the man with the melodious name, stands for a musical journey that goes back a long way. In 1984, young Raphaël bought his first records, a set of Lenco-Turntables and a small mixer. He quickly raised his skills by playing at private parties, rocking the crowd with an upfront and eclectic mix of Soul, Disco, Jazz, HipHop and Funk.
Raphaël Delan can be counted to the small core group of Pioneer-DJs such as Dani König, Mr. Mike, DJ Diferenz and Franctone that have heavily influenced the first days of Swiss club culture. Next to various bookings/engagements and residencies all across Switzerland and abroad. Raphaël Delan has continued working as a music journalist/host at Radio Canal 3, later as the buying agent in Black- and Dancemusic at the Zürich based record stores Halb Tanz (until 1995) and Crazy Beat (until 1998).
In 1998 he focused on his career as a DJ solely and played alongside international topshots such as Gilles Peterson, Spiritual South, Kyoto Jazz Massive, Patrick Forge, Richard Dorfmeister, Rainer Trüby, Tiefschwarz, Frankie Knuckles, Bob Sinclar and many more.
In 1999 Raphaël Delan founded the recordstore Delan Records, specializing in the import/sales of Jazz, Blackmusic and Electronica on CD and Vinyl.
After years of a mind-boggling mix of various styles (Hip Hop Soul, Funk, Progressive, House, Garage, 2 Step), he is currently savouring jazzy grooves on as well as off the dancefloor. Under the pseudonym Morning Dew Orchestra he recently finished his first production. The three live tracks, recorded in various studio sessions with the help of seven musicians, inspired heavyweights such as Raw Deal (Talkin Loud Rec.) and Minus 8 (Compost Records) to produce remixes.
Yet, it would be wrong to associate Raphaël Delan with Dancefloor-Jazz only. He has established popular clubnights such as The Night Of The Blue Notes, Absolute Night and most recent Delans Monday at Progr/Turnhalle. And he continues to play Freestyle, House and Black Music to a constantly growing crowd.
