About Me

*THIS PAGE IS RUN BY A FAN! ACKNOWLEDGE, PLEASE! *
D-Train was formed in Brooklyn, New York in th early 80’s. D-Train is both a nickname and group name. Vocalist / producer James Williams earned his nickname with a defensive tackle as a high school football player in Brooklyn.
Williams began singing as a child and had extensive gospel experience. He met bassist / drummer Hubert Eaves III, while attending school. They worked together with Eaves’ father, a jazz musician, on “You’re The One For Me”, which was issued under the name of D-Train in 1981. The duo recorded for Prelude until 1985.
Williams went solo in 1986, signing with Columbia. He took a more soulful, approach and earned two hits with “Misunderstanding” and “In Your Eyes” which was released in 1988.
Having signed to the Epic / Prelude label, the group found greater success in the UK than in America. They enjoyed three UK Top 30 hits with ’You’re The One For Me’ (1982), ’Music, Part 1’ (1983) and ’You’re The One For Me (Remix)’ (1985).
D-Train’s biggest US hit was the BilIboard R & B Top 5 single ’Something’s On Your Mind’ (1983). Again, restricted to R & B chart success, Williams’ three notable hits were ’Misunderstanding’ (number 10, 1986), ’Oh, How I Love You (Girl)’ (number 22, 1987), and ’In Your Eyes’ (number 11, 1988). In 2001, James did the vocals with Bob Sinclair’s album ’Champs Elysees’ on the track ’Darlin’.
