The Voice Of Love: LUTHER VANDROSS

About Me

Hello my name is Leon and I wanted to pay tribute to the early years of Luther Vandross. Luther Vandross created this group in 1975 and were signed to Cotillion Records. In early 1976 their album simply titled LUTHER came out to moderate airplay on the radio. It's Good For The Soul made it to the top 40 R&B list. Funky Music (Is A Part Of Me) also made the top 40 as well. Their next and last album THIS CLOSE TO YOU only had one song to make it on the R&B charts and that was the song THIS CLOSE TO YOU which made a low 93. The group was dropped from the label after low commercial sales and little faith from the label for promotional and touring productions. Luther bought back the rights/master tapes from Cotillion which is why the public has never seen these albums reissued. These albums deserve attention from Luther fans because the concept of Luther's singing and writings have not changed since his last hit as an artist. The songs on both albums still talk about LOVE (Follow My Love,Come Back To Love,This Close To You,This Strange Feeling) HOPE(Everybody Rejoice) and RELATIONSHIPS (This Is For Real,I'll Get Along Fine) and HEARTBREAKS (Don't Wanna Be A Fool,The Second Time Around,Don't Take The Time)PATIENCE (I'm Not Satisfied,A Lover's Change) and what makes these albums extra special is you see a funkier side of Luther (Funky Music, It's Good For The Soul, Emotion Eyes) I love his concept only sung once to my knowledge of JEALOUSY (Jealousy Is In Me). Check out my other Luther tribute pages on myspace which are all session groups that he sang lead vocals on. 1978-1979 Bionic Boogie albums,1979 Mascara,1979 Charme',1979 Soiree, and check out Listen My Brother the high school group Luther was in. On my tribute page you can hear the 45' single they made in circa 1969. Also they just reissued on Cd his appearance on the 1979 New York City Band album. They have a myspace page as well which is listed on my friends list. His lead vocals on Got To Have Your Body will suprise many Luther fans.

Luthers mom Mary Ida Vandross has passed.

Just found out today that Mary Ida Vandross mother of Luther Vandross passed away April 9.  Thoughts and prayers go out to the Vandross family but I am comforted knowing that Ms. Vandross is now ...
