Saviours of Space have been making music together for two years. In March 2007, they released their debut single, I Want It. Hot Press thought they were good and duly noted them in their magazine. In this period of the band’s life, they also won the National Student Music Awards, with a unanimous vote from all twelve music industry professionals who were adjudicating.Of late, the band have taken a somewhat different approach to songwriting, swapping angular guitar lines for a more considered, orchestrated sound that focuses on intricate arrangements with a great emphasis placed on production. It is a sound that is influenced both by the honesty and melodic prowess of older acts like The Beatles and the innovation of more recent acts like Mercury Rev and Grizzly Bear. The band are currently preparing to record their debut album, an effort which they will undertake themselves, giving them the experimental freedom they need to capture a unique approach to songwriting and production. The album is due to be released later this year.
