KIM DAVIS ON THE MIXTAPE CIRCUIT
The music speaks for itself, as the voice of Kim Davis captivates with its raw, uninhibited strength. With her unique talent and signature vocal abilities, it is no wonder why Kim is the most anticipated and celebrated artist coming out of Toronto, Canada. This South African, Canadian raised woman is a force to be reckoned with, being a multi-faceted artist vocally, lyrically and musically. With the ability to tell a story through music and captivate listeners with candid lyrics, Kim Davis has never been one to shy away from facing the challenges of life head on. With a desire to share her story, Kim has held nothing back on her debut album "Live, Love, Learn." The journey of struggle, perseverance and acceptance through self-love is expressed with vulnerability and passion throughout the debut. Her songs represent a new kind of woman, one who can live through adversity, overcome struggle, and accept her weaknesses all while loving herself in the process. Though life has not always been easy for the songstress, it is her dedication that illustrates the passion and love that she has for music. Whether it's her soul riveting ballads or the hard-hitting street anthems, Kim Davis truly takes her listeners on a journey from her own personal experiences of living, loving and learning.
After witnessing the murder of her husband, whom she was married to at the early age of 19, Kim realized how short life is. Thus, she began to regain control of her life, not only for her own personal well-being, but also for the happiness of her two children. She found herself facing many personal challenges; experiencing a sense of loss and abandonment. Writing became her therapy, as it was an outlet for her to express her feelings, take out her anger, and overcome her fears. It was from her journals she was able to incorporate all these feelings into song, her personal message being that of self-love and becoming a voice of survival for every person who has suffered like herself. It is through these songs we are truly able to see who the real Kim Davis is and we are able to share her struggle, interpret her pain and relate to her overall.
Kim Davis emerged onto the Canadian music scene as a writer sharing her talent with other artists within the city. She also became well known for performing as a background singer for some of Canada's top artists and also touring with 5-time Grammy award winning John Legend as well as former Warner recording artist Esthero. In late 2005, Kim was introduced to Dre Knight, a producer from The Narcotics ("Make Her Feel Good rmx." Teairra Mari, Kanye West, "What Ya Want" LL Cool J, Freeway) - a production team based in New York. After recording three songs with Knight, the producer was adamant of who his breakout artist would be. Kim began to work day in, day out with Incline Records production team "The Narcotics" in the summer of 2006. With the musical direction of Dre Knight combined with the outstanding talents of Kim Davis, " Live, Love, Learn" was born and “Hush†was the first smash record to hit radio airwaves in Canada, the U.S., and the UK.
Through her first record released, Ms. Davis had made quite an impression with a few entourages of music execs and producers based in the States who would then assist in launching and developing her career as a forefront solo artist and writer. Currently with two radio hits under her belt (“Hush†feat. Sizzla and “Sometimesâ€), a single off of VP Records compilation album Strictly The Best Vol. 38 (“Hush†feat. Sizzla), major label record placements as a writer (Bayje, Atlantic Records), performances in some of North America’s biggest shows and venues (NYC’s SummerJam @ Giant’s Stadium, S.O.B.’s, Jacob Javitts Center), and 1 spots on numerous radio countdowns are just a few of the accomplishments in under a year.
For Kim Davis there is no need for false facades, made up masquerades, or quirky gimmicks to make her seen or heard, it is simply she that makes her. The magic in her voice, passion in her song, vulnerability of herself, and love for what she does is what sets her apart, making her a future legend of our time. A diamond in the rough was found and it is now time for that diamond to shine.
Meet Ms. Kim Davis.
