Shattered Age was born in the winter of 2005. Founding members (and cousins) Robert Stoubos and Chris Brown wanted to be in a band that was all about making quality thought provoking music (and have lots of fun shenanigans along the way!). Shortly after long time friend of Chris - Edd Reay joined on drums. Edd happened to be a brilliant virtuoso guitarist who fancied whacking the shite out of some snare drum! With Rob singing and playing guitar, Chris on lead and Edd on drums they began covering songs from just some of their favorite bands including Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Metallica and Black Sabbath. Then in early February 2006 Martyn Whitlock was recruited on 2nd lead guitar. Again a childhood friend of Chris Brown. Martyn could shred like there was no tomorrow and wields a fine Dave Mustain V-shaped axe as his chosen weapon! This move gave Rob the freedom to fully use his powerful vocal chords and hit those high notes with the magesty the cover songs deserved. It was at this point that something happened........... as if by magic, they began writing their own songs!
Skip forward to March 06 - The creative spark had yielded 2 brand new songs, and many more song ideas. Another childhood friend called Gavin Jones (a guitar player) was invited to jam on bass where we discovered he could pick up the songs with ease. Gavin joined our crazy band. The fact that all members play guitar and have a comprahensive knowledge of music theory means that all members can add to the tapestry of the song writing process.
During the summer 06 Gavin and Edd had to leave due to commitments to their other bands. Hence Shattered Age looked like it had hit a very high hurdle indeed. Step forward Phil Underhill and Matt Checkley. Phil was a hard hitting metal monster who has quickly learnt all the past material with a passion. Matt joined just after. Matt's talent on Bass was evident from the first practice, wielding his Yamaha 5 string (also proud owner of 4 string fretless) we new he could do the business. Now in the Autumn of 06 it finally feels like this is the incarnation that will help us continue to make the good music we know we can. Stay tuned for news on our gigs and recordings...
