"I'M A STAR, HOW CAN I NOT SHINE!" ~ KANYE WEST.... STAY TUNED WWW.FABIOLACALIXTE.COM COMING SOON!!!

About Me

Well, let's see..... where shall I start, there's a lot to me, so be prepared for a story.

Born to West Indian parents in Laurelton, Queens, NY in a Catholic home, life for me and my younger sister was far from the norm. My parents enrolled my sis and I in Catholic school (St. Clair's) and expected us to excel in our academics..... and we did. Education was VERY important to my parents. Boys were a NO, NO..... I didn't have my 1st boyfriend until I was a senior in high school. My Mommy would always say, 'education is your future and your key to a good life..... guys only want one thing and they can ruin your life if you let them.' I found that to be very true later on in life:-0 My Mom spoke to us very candidly..... and I'm so grateful she did, for if she hadn't I might have gone down the wrong path in life. Although, our parents had high expectations for us and some would say they were too strict..... they were far from conservative. Both my Mom and Dad were socialites and threw major parties in our Laurelton neighborhood on 229th. They would last for 3 days sometimes and my Mom chef'd it up Caribbean style..... and if you've had some GOOD Caribbean 'cook food', you already know:-) and the MUSIC.... forget about it! Let's just say our home turned into Studio 54 on the weekends..... dancing was a must and our parents encouraged us to let loose and enjoy life! So I guess early on music had a great influence in my life and it was inevitable that I would have a great love for it throughout my life. With Hip Hop legends such as: LL Kool J, Run of Run DMC, and Pepa of Salt-n-Pepa living around the corner from me in Hollis Queens, I came to appreciate Hip Hop and ultimately became a long life fan. I didn't know how to rap nor sing, but I could dance my ass off! I could literally imitate and reenact any Janet Jackson, Jody Wately, or Salt-n-Pepa video that came on the screen. My Mom would hold dance contests between my sister, cousins and I. She gave cash prizes to the person who danced the best. With all the practice I was getting in my bedroom, I always ended up winning, lol! My Mother enrolled me in every performing arts class you can think of.... from Ballet, Tap, African dance, Piano lessons, Singing lessons and the list goes on and on. She always believed in me. My Mother saw something in me that I didn't even realize I had.... 'STAR' quality.

The year was 1988, Crack had hit the streets and my neighborhood was slowly getting affected, so my Mom went down to Orlando, Florida and bought us a house..... and just like that we left New York. I left behind a place where all my fondest childhood memories were and most of my family resided, but ironically I wasn't sad...... in fact I was happy, we was moving closer to Disney World!

Entering middle school in Orlando was a lot different from what I was use to. It took me awhile to understand people..... they spoke WAY different from my friends back home. But it didn't take me too long to get adjusted.... my entire middle school and later, high school was filled with Northerners and moreover, Northerners with Caribbean parents. It was just like being back in New York..... there were Puerto Ricans, Cubans, Dominicans, Jamaicans, Haitians, Trinis, etc. except it was HOT in Florida year around. As I got older, I began to gain a lot of attention, but not only from guys, but from everyone. Modeling Scouts, Agents, and strangers would come up to my Mom and ask her if I modeled/acted. After being approached so many times, soon my Mom began to get on the ball with me. She enrolled me in acting school at Barbizon Talent Agency and modeling school at John Casablanca's Modeling Agency. I began to study and watch the pros, (Beverly Johnson, Linda Evangelista, and Naomi Campbell) who soon became my idols. My Mom brought me to my 1st audition at J.C. Penney department store. They were looking to sign 12 young models under contract for one year. In that year, you would model (catalog, mannequin, photo shoots) exclusively for JC Penney and participate in all of their Runway Fashion shows. It was nerve wrecking! There were 5 rounds to the audition process, but I made it! From that point on, I knew I could do anything I set my mind to..... it's a matter of just believing in yourself and imagining that you already have what it is that you want. That's been my motto ever since..... claiming it is the key to success! I went on to do commercials, print, theatrical plays, dancing (‘Fly Girls’ Dance Team) and participated in a lot more runway shows throughout my high school years. I had been to what felt like a billion auditions/castings! I knew what they wanted and I gave it to them! I began to get a better understanding of the industry at a young age and saw the GOOD, the BAD, and the UGLY:-(

My senior year in H.S., I decided I wanted to either attend Howard University in DC or Clark Atlanta University and so I applied to both. I received my acceptance letter from CAU first and accepted. A few weeks later I received another acceptance letter.... from Howard, but it was too late, I had already decided to go to CAU and so my decision was final. I had always been a big fan of Downtown Julie Brown, former VJ on MTV. She was always so charismatic, energetic, personable and full of life! I thought... she acts just like me.... I can do what she does;-) Yeah this is before it became cliché' to want to be a VJ or a television personality; I was set on making that my career way back in 95-96. So, I decided to major in Mass Communications aka Mass Media Arts w/ a concentration in Radio, TV, and Film at Clark Atlanta University. The move to Atlanta, opened up my eyes to whole another lifestyle. This was the 'music mecca' of the South. I found myself interning at So So Def under Mel Testamark, then Dir. of Marketing & Promotions. I got to learn the business side of this music game. Me and my good friend, Koku frequented the nightlife in Atlanta and came to meet a lot of the 'movers and shakers' of this industry. But I didn't stop there, I moved on and started interning at Sony/Epic Noontime Recordings. For those of you who haven't heard of them, they brought you super producers such as: Teddy Bishop, Jazze Pha, Bryan Michael Cox, Johnta Austin, Dent, J Dubb, and etc. There, I really got a chance to learn the infrastructure of a record label and worked alongside the A&R, in which I became inspired to one day become an A&R as well. Far from the VJ career I once wanted. But that's how my life was..... there were always surprises waiting around the corner and once I thought I was on the path of doing one thing, then it would detour me into something completely different. And yes folks..... it did AGAIN! I started getting approached about appearing in music videos. The first video I was asked to be in was R. Kelly feat. Keith Murray, "Home Alone" directed by none other than Hype Williams himself. He was a great pleasure to work with...... a creative genius if you ask me. Then that snowballed into a slew of music videos back to back. It was effortless at times to land these auditions, when for the most part all you had to be able to do is DANCE and look good! That was like 2nd nature to me since I had been dancing and performing ever since I could remember in front of people, most of the time strangers. You may have seen me in music videos of artists such as: Mike Jones, Snoop DOGG, T.I., Outkast, Young Jeezy, Q of ESC, Bun B, Lil' John & The East Side Boyz, Youngbloodz, DTP, Lil’ Scrappy, Cee-Lo, Timbaland, P$C, Jazze Pha, Jagged Edge, Nappy Roots, and a bunch of others that I can't even recollect myself. If I wasn't doing a video, you could catch me on BET's Comicview during the first season. I was also continuously modeling (Bronner Brothers Fantasy magazine, several Hair Shows, PZI - Perazzi Jeans Fashion Shows), appearing in calendars (2004 Mo Girls, 2005 Edge Perfection, 2007-2008 GlamaGirls Foreplay calendars), movies (Occupation Hollywood - 2005, Tamales and Gumbo - 2007, What You Say Is What You Get - 2007), television shows (BET's Comicview, Ballers, & The Boot, MTV's Wild 'N Out, 'My Name Is Video Vixen' documentary), theatrical plays (THE SHOW – You Don’t Tell, I Won’t Tell), publications (the style section of the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Creative Loafing, Urban Book Covers, Black Men magazine, LUIRE, Fantasy Bronner Brothers, and J'Adore), CD covers (Outkast - Andre 3000, "The Love Below" CD and Nutt Skywalker CD), hosting (2006 Mo Girls All Star Heroines DVD), and voice overs (Sports Station 680 The Fan). One would ask..... when did I find the time to study..... I'm still asking myself the same question:-) Nonetheless, I graduated from Clark Atlanta University in May 2001 with a BA in Mass Communications.

Who knows what's next for me..... DEFINITELY some more movie debuts. Rest a sure, you'll be hearing a lot more about Fabiola because sky's the limit to me and I'm not nearly done. I believe God has a plan for us all and we are all unique and possess not one, but several gifts. Nothing is coincidental in life..... if you find that you're always meeting or running into successful and affluent people, that's not by accident. You're meant to meet these people, to move you closer to your dreams. So take full advantage of every opportunity that is presented to you. You're not alone in this game we call 'Life'... you have a lifetime companion that knows exactly what your heart desires and wants nothing more than to see you attain it. If you're still wondering who that person is, his name is GOD. Put him FIRST in EVERYTHING that you do and he'll take over from there. Be blessed and joyful!

So, I bet you think you know everything there is to know about me now, huh... meeting me in person is a whole another experience! But now that you do know a little bit more about me, I want to hear from you as well. Please feel free to post a comment on my page or leave me a voicemail message below and let me know ‘What It Do’!

Peace & Love, Fabiola
