About Me

Born and raised in Peterborough. Started seriously playing drums when I was in Grade 10, joined concert and jazz bands, then played high school rock with the Hudson Bay Fur Traders, and then Tim Style and the Sellouts. Went to Montreal to study jazz at McGill University. Met some incredible musicians and generally amazing people, and played quite a spectrum of jazz from big band, combo, trio to free jazz and some amazing classical/jazz collectives with Adam Daudrich and David Levy. After I kind of sort finished in Montreal, I came back to Peterborough and fell in love with the city and rock music again. I was asked to fill in for Argyle in the summer of '05, and haven't looked back since. I'm really proud to be a part of this band, and look forward to givn'r as far as we can.

Influences: I feel influenced by so many things other than music, that its hard to write it all down in one big blurb, but I'll try.I didn't really start paying attention to what I was listening to until high school, where I started playing drums. WARNING: ***Embarassing Revelation****The first thing I ever practiced drumming to was Staying Alive and Night Fever by the BeeGees, because it was so damn easy. I wasn't a fan of disco at all, but the drumming did appeal to me.Once I started listening to rock, I became a fan of Dave Grohl of Nirvana and Foo Fighters Fame, and I spent countless hours one summer playing to the Foo album "The Color and The Shape". Once I was introduced to Tool, I was forever hooked on listening to more sophisticated drumming and spent many many hours trying to imitate Danny Carey. I was also very influenced by Jimmy Chamberlain of The Smashing Pumpkins. In some ways my playing is still quite influenced by those three drummers alone. Oddly enough I didn't really get into John Bonham until University. In high school I was also big on Stewart Copeland of The Police, as well as Ringo Starr of course. As for Jazz, I was hooked on Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa.Once I went to Montreal, my musical world was shattered by the music created by and with the help of the following drummers: Tony Williams, Elvin Jones, Roy Haynes, Jack DeJohnette, Bill Stewart, Bob Moses, John Bonham, Ben Perowski, Jim Black, Billy Martin and Montrealites Greg Ritchie, Chris McCann, Dave Laing, Michel Lambert, Andre White and Jim Doxas. As you can tell, alot of my musical direction was steered by the fantastic drummers involved, but at one point, I had to pull my head out of my ass and check out music that wasn't necessarily involving drummers. Such artists during that time that really influenced me were Keith Jarrett especially (solo piano, and jazz trio), Ralph Towner, Miles Davis, Elliot Smith, Nick Drake, Jeff Buckley, Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell.Ok, I think that covers most of the music, although I forgot to mention THE BAND, and Neil Young, who was always around but I can't believe I neglected to listen to for so long. I'm also interested in electronic music, including the likes of Amon Tobin, Squarepusher, NIN, Nerve, Aphex Twin, and Portishead.
