About Me

Kimberly (who prefers not to use her last name), began playing open mics at Lyn Burnstine's Family Sing Coffeehouse in Poughkeepsie when she was 15. During that time, she began writing songs but was too shy to play them in public. “I felt my songs were intensely personal, and at 15, I was afraid to play them for anyone”. Her music today, is often quiet, reflective and sometimes makes one feel a bit of a tug on the heart. “My songs are about my experiences in life. Some of those experiences have been far from wonderful”. Many of her songs make one feel emotions of pain and loss, and often talk about things “most people just don’t want to talk about”. Her voice is clear and strong, with a deep smoky edge. She cites Joan Baez, Bonnie Raitt and Rosalie Sorrels as her main musical influences. She stopped playing publicly when she was 23 because of extreme stage fright. Returning to the open mic scene via the Hudson Valley Folk Guild in 1999, she has been wowing listeners ever since. She has played at music festivals in New York, Massachusetts and New Hampshire as well as many other venues from Maine to Oklahoma. In “real” life, Kimberly is the mom of 3 lovely daughters and ”Granny” to a granddaughter and 2 grandsons. She teaches secondary French. Raised in the Mid-Hudson Valley, Kimberly makes her home in a beautiful little hamlet in Ulster County.

remembering December 2nd

THIEF  I slept once with my head on your chest. From the depths of a million winks I heard your deep chuckle And I knew I'd been snoring. I was embarrassed. I could barely make out your smile in...
